Archives 2011-12

Farewell

 

A farewell was organized for II PUC students in the college on 28th January, 2012. The day started by invoking God’s blessings. This was followed by laying off of the office of the student council. The principal jogged down the year that was, highlighted few happy moments, gave applauses, took oath from the students to become good Samaritans and wished them GOOD LUCK!!! Followed by this was a speech delivered by Mr. Roshan Menezes, the administrator of the college. He praised the outgoing batch to be the most diversified batch. He also advised students not to be couch potatoes but to be independent in thinking and also working at it. Mrs. Suma H. N, advisor of the student council also praised the council participation in conducting various activities very responsibly. Mrs. Evelyn Prakash, from Biology department addressed the gathering and advised the students to “forgive and forget”, wished them all the best for their future. Students also shared the stage to talk their experience and thanked the management and the teachers.

Republic Day Celebration

 

The college celebrated the 63rd Republic Day on 26th January 2012. The flag was hoisted by Mr.Roshan Menezes. Mr. Raju K.N, PE Director of the college, anchored the event. Mrs. Suman Naresh , from the English department, reminded the gathering about the work done by freedom fighters, importance of the day and the responsibility of the youth towards the Nation. Shama (ID)  sang “Sare Jahan Se Acha”. Sweets were distributed to refresh the sweet memories of the formation of the Indian Constitution.

 

 

Hindi Sanghosthi

 

In association with “Vijaya Bank” “Hindi Sanghosthi” was organized in the college on 27th January 2012. The dignitaries present were Mr. R. V. Shetty, Chief Manager, Vijaya Bank, North Bangalore. Mr. Nagamalleswar Rao, Senior Manager, Vijaya Bank, W.O.C.Road, Mr. Jena, Hindi Section Officer, Vijaya Bank along with the college Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes. The purpose of conducting this event was to mainly highlight banking transaction in hindi students were also given information about the procedure for availing student loan. The commerce department Hindi students spoke very eloquently in hindi about various topics.

Tenth Annual Day Celebration

 

Carmel PU College, Basaveshwarnagar, celebrated its tenth Annual day on January 10th 2012.  The guests offered Shraddanjali to the founder Secretary of institution Late.Mr.Alexander Menezes.  The dignitaries present were Mrs. Patsy Lobo, chief guest of the day, Mr. Derek Lobo Retd Regional Advisor for South East Asia United Nations (WHO), President of Carmel Education Society ®, Mr.Jagannath Shetty and Principal of Carmel School Mrs.Doorthy Menezes along with the Administrator of the college Mr.Roshan Menezes & Principal of the college Mrs.Sandhya Menezes. 

 

 

The day witnessed the release of the News Letter for the year 2011 – 12.  The Chief Guest was felicitated for the services she has rendered as an Educationist.  She addressed the gathering in which she emphasized that an educationist has to dream big to motivate the students to dream bigger.  This was followed by an awards presentation ceremony for the deserving students comprising of Principal’s award for the best class representative, award for 100% attendance in and so on.  Ms.Kanchana.S.P & Mithun .K.Prasad bagged the best outgoing student’s award. 

 

The Institution’s dream of making it globally accessible came true with the launch of its website. There was a presentation showcasing the institution’s journey through the decade. The day culminated with mesmerizing musical orchestra, dance, drama, dance off between the present and ex-carmelites , fashion show highlighting the metamorphosis of fashion  and street dance.

 

 

Alexander Memorial Trophy

 

Intra Collegiate Tennis ball Cricket Tournament, Alexander Memorial Trophy was held on 24th December 2011, where ‘I D’ emerged as winners and ‘I B’ emerged as runners.

 

 

Street play “Bhrashtavayithe Bharatha” was conducted on 4th November, near Ambedkar stadium in Basaveshwarnagar.

 

 

 

Sciencibition was conducted on 28th November in the college campus inaugurated by Dr. Bhaskar, Retd. Professor, RV Teachers’  College.

 

Students from around 28 colleges in and around Bangalore city actively participated in the event and enthusiastically showcased their models.

 

 

The Annual Athletic meet was held on 19th November in Kamalammagundi  grounds. The chief guest who presided was Mrs. Geeta Kulkarni, Inspector of Police, Basaveshwarnagar.

 

 

Decennial year celebration

 

Carmel has completed ten successful years. To commemorate the decennial year the staff council planned a ten point program.

 

Donating blood is one of the noblest things a person can do. Its saves the life of that person who are in need of blood and also rejuvenates the blood of the donor.


Carmel P.U.college in association with the LIONS CLUB OF BANGALORE had organized a blood donation camp in Carmel College on 18th of June 2011.

 


 

Community Service unit was formed with an objective yo serve the needy. It rendered its services to ‘Anugraha’ a Mont fort social service centre whose inmates are children of AIDS patients. It started its service in July 16th; the feast of lady Mount Carmel .The community service members spent quality time with the inmates and taught them cultural events, gardening and celebrated Christmas and New Year with them.


 

The eco club orients public and the students to develop belongingness towards nature. It conducted face painting and poster making events on 6th June 2011 to mark the world environment day. It organized eco week during the last week of July when it had conducted the question of the month session debating on the boons and banes of CFCs. On September 23rd 2011 the eco club members visited the Karnataka pollution control board. where they were exposed to various tests and mechanisms adopted by them to test the samples to maintain pollution free environment .On 20th October 2011,the eco club members actively participated in the distribution of posters and interrogated with the neighborhood of our college in order to create awareness on the safety measures during the bursting of crackers. They were successful in conveying the public to celebrate an eco friendly and pollution free Diwali on 5th November, the Eco club members took part in the environment awareness rally for a noble and global cause. On 22nd November the Eco club conducted collage competition for the college students on the topic renewable resources and waste management. During second week of December 2011 the club organized a survey in the neighborhood of the college.


 

Keeping in mind the latest trend in the field of chemistry, Chemistry Department had organized a workshop for P.U. students. Students of all the colleges took part actively. The highlight of the event was latest inclusions in field of catalyst and how so events in the past have changed the history of chemistry. The speakers of the day were Dr. Laxman Rao HOD of St. Aloysius College and Dr. Nagendrappa HOD of Chemistry from Bangalore University and also chief editor of Resonance journal. The program was interesting and informative.


 

 

As part of the Decennial year celebration, the College had organized an event for parents called “What’s cooking?” on 20th August 2011 in recreation centre at 11.30 am. Few parents took part actively in this event and showed their culinary skills through fireless cooking with great enthusiasm.


 

Our students performed a street play “Bhrashtavayithe Bharatha” on 4th November at Ambedkar Stadium which highlighted the corruptions happening in various fields.


 

As a part of the decennial year celebration commerce department conducted a sample survey. A survey about parent college partnership.

 

An inter college quiz competition “Brain Storm” for lecturers was organized. The quiz was conducted on 3rd September 2011.By our honorable administrator who played the role of the quiz master.

 

As a part of Decennial year celebration Carmel P U college organized an inter collegiate science exhibition on 28th of November 2011. Students from around 28 colleges in and around Bangalore city actively participated in the event and enthusiastically showcased their models. Dr. Bhaskara, Retd professor of RV teachers’ college inaugurated the event and stressed the importance of creativity and innovative thoughts in students. Esteemed judges for Sciencibition were Dr. Kamala, H O D physics, National P U College and Dr. Shivashankar, Retd professor, Botany Dept. National P U College. Both of them showed a lot interest in each model, appreciated them and suggested possible improvements that can be incorporated in respective models.

 

 

On 26th November, intercollegiate throw ball match for girls was organized by the Carmel P.U.College as a mark of its Decennial year Program. 9 colleges from various parts of the city participated with true sportsmans spirit. The host college, Carmel P.U. College marched with the winner’s trophy. The I runners up were SJR College for Women and II runner up were Sri Aurobindo P.U.college. Chief guest Smt. Rukmini, international throw ball player graced the occasion. The best player of the series was Ashwini from SJR College for Women.
 
Srinidhi Bhat of I PUC and Akshay. K of II PUC commerce stream was adjudged as the best entry in the All-India Essay Writing event 2011 in categaory (classes 9th to 12th ). The topic was "Change and the World Changes for You" for I PUC and II PUC. This event is organised by Sri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) adn United Nation Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC).

Keerthi Prakashana, Kannada Literature and Cultural Association (Regd) , Chickmagalur Taluk had conducted  state level  Kannada  Talent Examination 2011 in the month of November 2011. Taekwondo

Nikhil participated in Dasara sports 2011 held in Mysore, under the 29th Senior Taekwondo Championship and has won Bronze Medal.


During 21st and 22nd of Jan 2012, Interclub Taekwondo championship was held by Ambedkar Taekwondo Centre under the aegis of Karnataka Taekwondo Association and Nikhil has won gold medal in sparring, Silver medal in Taequik and a bronze medal in Breaking.

 
National Roller Skating Championship

Dhanush Babu (IB) had represented Karnataka in the 49th National Roller Skating Championship held in Bangalore on 24th and 25th January, 2012. He has secured the following medals in his respective events:

Student achievement
 

Jayadeva.V.Y. of  class IA represented Karnataka in the under-19 age category at the National level in cricket which was held at various places like Dharmshala, Saurashtra and Bijapur from 15thDecember 2011 to 26thDecember 2011. Jayadeva scored 203 runs in five innings of three test matches and his team was emerged as winners.

 
 
Ethnic Day

Mr. Punith and Ms. Harshita -  Mr./Ms. Carmel - December 2011.
Ethnic Day was held on December 1st, 2011. Around 100 students participated in the event. Around 100 students participated in the event. Mr. Murali, cine actor was one of the judges for the Ethnic Day fashion Show. Mr. Punith of II PUC and Ms. Harshita of II PUC were declared as Mr. Carmel and Ms. Carmel respectively.

Cultural Achievements
 

Meghana .S. Kumar of IIA participated in the first Vishwa Kannada Sammelana Europe 2011, which was held on 22nd & 23rd of October in London. She was invited by Govt. of Karnataka to show our Indian culture. She performed a dance on Basavanna’s Vachana and received appreciation certificate and momento  , in star night show event she won “Hemmeya Kannadathi

Nishanth the young artist

 

Nishanth.C.M of IIA , the young artist of the college has participated in various art events and won laurels to the college. He represented college in District level drawing competition conducted by PU Board and won I Prize.  Again he placed First in Divisional level drawing  event held at Tumkur in  December 2011 and also selected for State level.

State Level Art Competition

 

Nishanth C.M has once again made his almamater proud by securing the third prize at the State Level Art Competition held in Chikkmaglur on 9-1-12. The event was organized by the Department of Pre-University Education, Bangalore.

 

 

STREET DANCE(THE BEAT)

 

Dance form developed in the streets of NEW YORK gained a huge light in the recent past. The only dance form that Carmel didn’t know about, was brought into being by some inspired minds. Some  amazing talents were recognized as they came together from their hidden self to be known as “THE BEAT”.

 


As a result they were invited for the national level competition (IBC) after winning the state level competition conducted by the New Horizon College of Engineering in the year 2011 wherein they were awarded a cash prize of Rs.15,000 which was indeed a great reward for their sheer hard work as they brought laurels to our college.

 

 

 
Sports Achievements
 

Netball Championship


Balaji K of ID has participated  in the state level Netball championship conducted by Karnataka and secured Third place in 11th junior state Amateur Netball association® 2011. He also played in FREELANGERS CLUB and participated in state level PU College Boys and Girls Netball tournament 2011-2012, held on 5th and 6th of November 2011 at  Anmol Science PU College, Sriramagondannahalli, Davangere. He is  one of the team member of Bangalore North.

 


Taekwondo Championship �����

Nikhil N Jain of ID has participated in the 9th state level Taekwondo Championship 2008 held  at Ambedkar Stadium, Bangalore and won Gold medal and  in the 10th  state level Taekwondo Championship 2010 held at Maladevi Stadium, Karwar , he won one Silver and two Bronze Medals . He also participated in the state senior level Taekwondo championship held  at Kormanagala, Bangalore(2011) . He also participated in South Zone Taekwondo Championship held at Hindustan University, Chennai (2010) and won Gold medal. In addition to this , in  July 2011  , he represented India in the 5th World Taekwondo Culture EXPO held in SEOUL  South Korea and won two Silver medals .

 

 

 

Skating


Dhanush Babu of IB started skating at the age of 4. He went onto compete in various competitions. The first being in 2011, he completed  a rally from Bangalore to Madikeri in two days on skates. He participated in the national level for the first time when he was 7 years old. In 2008, he participated in the All India Ice Skating Championship in which he was selected to challenge the World champions in the World Ice Skating Championship at Taiwan. He succeeded as the captain of the Indian Roll Ball Team by winning various medals in the Asian Championship. Now, he is the reigning fastest skater in the whole of Karnataka and aims to be a part of the Indian Skating Team this year.

Harshitha G of IID is the throwball team captain of our college since two years and she has represented  2011-2012 Bangalore North team (State level) held at Gadag and won 1st place. She was also selected for National Level throw ball conducted by SGFI held at Gwalior Madhya Pradesh in the month of October.

“KARIBANTA”- the state level kannada drama

 

Kannada Drama “KARIBANTA” –Carmel college students participated in the state level drama competition held at Ravindra Kalakshetra in the year 2007. This  was adjudged the “Best folk drama” and the “Best costume” award.

Staff Achievements
 

Dr.Gopalkrishna Bhat attended several National and International seminars and presented papers. Many of his seminar papers and articles are published in news papers. Dr.Gopalkrishna Bhat had attended & presented his paper on Jeevana Darshanam at Akhila Bharata Samskruta Sammelana conducted by Delhi Sanskrit Academy at Haridwar in 2002. He also presented papers in different seminars and conferences like seminar on Rasa Siddhanta conducted by UGC at Dharwad in 2004. International scientific Sanskrit conference at Pratapgad(Rajasthan) in 2004.

 

State level seminar conducted  by Bangalore University at Basaveshwara First Grade College Bangalore in 2009, Seminar on Smrutis conducted by Bharata Shikshana Mandali  at Bangalore in 2011.
