Alumni Meet 2017
Alumni association had organised reunion on 12th February 2017. Kick start of the reunion was with the cricket tournament held on 11 February 2017. Six teams had participated with league cum knockout system. The winners were the team alumni ALL STARS and runners were the team PSYCHO. Truly all the teams had the ball.
New office bearers of the association were elected. Amith Nag of 2013 batch was elected as President unanimously. Harsh of 2014 batch was selected as Vice President and Pratik Vamja of 2015 batch was selected as Secretary. Principal madam addressed the gathering reminiscing some of finest moments she cherished. Felicitation of Mr. Srinivas Murthy lecturer Kannada department was also the part of the program. Together everybody relaxed and enjoyed exquisite lunch.

Farewell Day
"Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I miss u until we meet again".
This was the notion in air on 30th January 2017. It was farewell day to bid adieu to II PUC students. The whole college was decked up gorgeously. The day began with invocation song by Anushree and group. This was followed by laying down of office of student council.
Principal madam addressed the gathering by sharing some of the best memories she enjoyed with this batch of students. Student advisor Mrs. Suma H.N. shared her experiences working with student council. Few students also shared their wonderful memories they adorned at Carmel. Administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes narrated inspiring story to students and urged them to be thankful to God and parents. Students were up on their feet to the tunes played and celebrated the occasion.

Republic day
Republic day was celebrated with great patriotic vehemence on 26th January 2017. The day began with unfurling of tri color. Principal madam Mrs. Sandhya Menezes addressed the gathering and expressed that despite India having numerous religions, caste, creed and languages Indians always stand together at times of crisis. India is known for its unity in diversity.
Sumptuous breakfast was served to the staff members.

Annual Day
Annual day was celebrated with great vivacity on 07th January 2017. Annual day also marks the birth anniversary celebration of Late Mr. Alexander Menezes, Founder Carmel Education Society. Chief guests for the annual day were Mr. and Mrs. Mayank Solanki. Mr. Mayank Solanki – A youth prodigy with interests in Social Entrepreneurship, Character Building Education & Youth Development, is a founder of Value Ed Initiatives.
The other dignitaries gracing the occasion were Academic director Mrs. Dorothy Menezes, Administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes, Principal Madam Mrs. Sandhya Menezes and Dr.. Florence Dsouza, Principal Carmel high school.
This significant day began with mesmerizing invocation song by Aishwarya and group. This was followed by floral tribute to the founder.
Principal madam Mrs. Sandhya Menezes presented annual report of the academic year 2016-17. Annual Newsletter Carmel Inspiration was released by the dignitaries. Student council president Miss. Eva D Saglani addressed the gathering presenting the report of student council activities.
The most prominent part of the gathering was chief guest's address. Mr. Mayank inspired students by narrating his own story about pioneering value based education system. He urged students to serve society and help the needy.
Prize distribution ceremony was also the part of this gathering to felicitate students who excelled in the field of academics, sports and also other conduct. Harsh Lalit Changela was awarded best out going boy and Eva D Saglani was awarded best out going girl.
Mrs. Savitha coordinator PESSAT awarded scholarship to students towards their commitment to science.
Mr. Roshan Menezes Secretary Carmel Education Society congratulated all the winners and felicitated staff members who completed 10 years and five years of service at Carmel. Sharan of II E performed eloquent dance performance and was an impressive experience to the audience. Our Carmel band presented an unparalled music performance that won the heart of the audience.
The day concluded with the singing of National anthem.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
Christmas is the season of rejoice, lighting and decoration of christmas trees, creation of nativity scenes depicting the birth of Jesus Christ and singing of carols.
At Carmel Christmas was celebrated with full delight and enthusiasm. Carols were sung by the students in the Friday assembly. Thoughts disseminating love and peace were also shared.
The management had organised a gala celebration on 22nd December for the staff members at sports arena. Administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes preached mantra MAP.
MAP->Motivate Activate Participate. Our administrator sir urged teachers to motivate students in their class, allow everyone to actively participate in discussions and construct a fruitful environment.
End of the day sumptous snacks was served and gifts were distributed to all the teaching and non teaching staff members.

LAKSHYA 2016
Lakshya a career guidance programme was organised for the students of II PUC on 17th December 2016. Students of neighbouring schools and colleges were also invited to be the part of this programme.
The programme began with the keynote address by Dr. Ali Khwaja director of Banjara Academy. His sincere advice to the students was to choose career based on their skill and passion towards the line of work.
After the keynote address students dispersed to various venues. Resource persons from various fields such as Medicine ,Engineering ,Commerce ,Humanities, Pure Science, Overseas studies and alumni of the college were available in each room to counsel the students.
Lakshya served as an amazing platform for the students who were in dilemma with the career options available in today's driving world.

Ethnic day
Ethnic day was celebrated on 1st December 2016 in Carmel which marks an occassion to adorn our Indian culture and tradition brightly and festively. All the carmelites decked up themselves to the best of our Indian costume.
On Ethnic day interested Carmelites take the ramp with their best ethnic costume. It is our administrator Mr. Roshan Menezes's birthday too, so its twofold celebration.
The judges for this year were Miss. Nicole Padiwal, Mr. Kittu Krishna and our administrator sir. Miss Nicole a model by profession had won Miss. Max Bangalore and Mr. Kittu Krishna is a cine artist in sandalwood and tollywood.
Carmelites put in their best effort to score brownie points from the judges. Out of 60 contestants from each of the boys and girls, the highly talented in questionnaire round and talent round, the best of the lot was crowned Miss Carmel and Mr.Carmel. Mr. Aaryan J was crowned Mr. Carmel and Miss. Eva D Saglani was crowned Miss. Carmel on the tremendous Ethnic Day 2016.
On the whole Ethnic Day left the Carmel participants with winners and the accomplished . It was greatly enjoyed by the Carmelites in the true sense.

Fifteenth Annual Athletic Meet
The greatest asset is a strong mind. If I know someone is training harder than I am then I have no excuses. This quote was quoted by P.V.SINDHU first indian woman to win silver medal in olympics thanking her coach P.Gopichand. This quote is very much relevant to our Carmel college. Though all of us do not have equal talents all of us have equal opportunities at Carmel.
Fifteenth annual athletic meet was organised on 19th November 2016 at Ambedkar stadium. The chief guest for the sports meet was Mr. Ashok Kumar. Mr. Ashok Kumar is deputy director of academics and infrastructure PU Education board. His inspiring talk prepared the students for the big day.
Sports day in Carmel PU College is a day, eagerly awaited by all the enthusiasts as we have a wide range of sports, encouraging athletes with various events like running, relay, shot put, Javelin throw, high jump, long jump, discus throw and many more such events.
Our administrator Mr. Roshan Menezes showed his constant support by gracing the occasion. Our Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes was there to cheer for all the participants. The staff of Carmel showed their solidarity for the success of the sports day.
Class “ ID “ bagged the overall championship and all the sports winners were awarded. Our Physical educational sir Mr. Raju added glamour quotient to the sports day by conducting a relay run for the staff of Carmel PU College. On the whole sports day turned out to be a grand success day.
Alexandar trophy award ceremony was also organised on the same day. Winners and runners were felicitated by the chief guest.

Kannada Rajyotsava
Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with great fervor at our college on 1st November .
The day began with lighting of auspicious lamp by staff members. Speeches to kindle passion for our Kannada were rendered by our students . Quiz was organized by Kannada department for the audience. Sweets were distributed at the end of the program. Kannada naada geethe was sung with zeal.

FELICITATION TO ADMINISTRATOR
Our administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes received A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Award for outstanding individual achievements and distinguished services in the field of education constituted by none other than Hon. Shri Shivraj V. Patil, former speaker Lok Sabha, Union Home minister and governor of Punjab.
A visionary, a role model for students , a proficient for teachers our administrator sir has contributed a lot to the progress of Carmel education society over two decades.
Today we know that technology is an important tool in education. But our administrator sir foresaw this way back in 2000 when he inaugurated the Milleneum block and computer zone. He ensured that teachers were also equipped to use technology providing opportunities to help them. Today carmel has come a long way with smart board in every class room.
The need for global dimension in curriculum was felt by our administrator and with this in mind Carmel in association with British council has had a number of programmes successfully. Teachers exchange programmes with schools in UK,receiving the internation school award in 2010, youth sport leadership camp and the initiation of global ciitizen's club are few of them. He has played a major role in spear heading a number of activities by GCC on environment conservation, issues on malnutrition and human rights. Tying up with Schneider Electric for energy conservation to Reap Benefit over the last years for water and energy conservation and implementing rain water harvesting has shown his passion towards contributing to the environment. Swachh Bharat Programme, the cleanliness drive an initiative was very close to his heart. This year the installation of solar panels to conserve energy and give back something to the society shows his untiring efforts in this direction.
Our administrator has always encouraged sports and has provided infrastructure, coaching and programmes to encourage sporting talents and students. The inauguration of sports arena in 2011, introduction of leapstart programme and sports club with various activities has seen some of the best leave the portals of the institution excelling in cricket, taekwondo, badminton and so. He has also provided platform to encourage cultural and literary talents as well as scientific temper with inter school events like different Strokes, Spectrum or Scifica.

THE AMATEUR SCIENTIST
PES University conducted "The Amateur Scientist" science fair on 20th August, 2016. Invent and inspire went hand in hand wherein students were exposed to many challenges. It provided a platform for young minds to showcase their forte in various branches of science at a professional level. Various events like quiz, debate, model making, treasure events, Electronics workshop were organized. It was good learning experience for the Carmelites.

Blood Donation Camp
Carmel PU College Community Service Center in association with Lions Club Gokula had organized Blood donation camp on 10th September 2016. Volunteers of community service center had geared up fortnight before the camp to spread awareness of donating blood. The inauguration of camp began with, invocation of God's blessings. Our beloved Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes welcomed the gathering. Camp was a huge success and 45 units of blood was collected. Refreshments and lunch was served to the donors.

Rendezvous 2016 Inter Collegiate Fest
The Pre-University students of Bangalore had a tryst with Carmel PU College as it hosted "Rendezvous 2016" - its inter - collegiate cultural fest, on August 27th 2016. Rendezvous is one of the grandest cultural fests of Bangalore. This year more than 40 colleges participated in the 33 events on a plethora of field from arts, literary and cultural. The main stage events - viz - fashion show, western acoustics, Bollywood dance and Unique talent, were well participated. This year a new event 'Mentor and me' drew the attention of the audience.
Ms Shravya Rao, who is creating ripples in Sandalwood was chief guest of the valedictory function. She exhorted the students to strive with passion in the field of their choice. Relentless hard work would always bring success she opined.
Mrs Sandhya Menezes, Principal Carmel PU College said that Rendezvous was one of the most important events in Carmel Calendar. Rendezvous, she said is beyond a fest as it provides an opportunity for students to hone their talent as well as learn valuable lessons in planning, team work and management.
Mr. Roshan Menezes, the administrator of Carmel Group of Institutions, stated that an increase in the footfall year after year proves its growing popularity. This has motivated the management to introduce novel events like Mathability, Game of comedy, Painting (without brush), e-waste art and so on.
Though many city colleges participated, the two colleges that from the beginning dominated were Mount Carmel College and Vidhya Mandir. At the end of a long drawn battle between the two, Mount Carmel bagged the overall trophy.

TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATION
A good teacher is a blend of head and heart. Students in recognition of the yeomen service rendered by their teachers hosted a gala celebration in their honor.
Teachers were entertained with music and dance. Games like tug of war, lemon and spoon, hoopla race and passing the ball were also organized. Mementos were distributed to all the teachers. Prize winners were awarded with certificates and gifts. End of the celebration teachers enjoyed sumptuous lunch organized by the management.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
Independence day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor on 15th August. The entire occasion was compiled and executed by the student council.
The celebration began with the unfurling of tricolor by Mrs. Sujatha C.P. HOD Chemistry department.
Heena Khandelwal secretary student council welcomed the gathering. Misbah and Arvind Kumar urged brilliant patriotism by their speeches. Patriotic songs were sung by students and teachers. Sweets were distributed at the end of the celebration.

MALHAR
Carmel PU College celebrated the intra-collegiate festival Malhar on August 13th 2016.
The chief guest for the event was our alumni Mr. Sandeep cine artist. The other dignitaries gracing the occasion were administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes, academic director Carmel High school Mrs. Dorothy Menezes, principal madam Mrs. Sandhya Menezes and Dr. Florence D'souza principal Carmel High school.
The day commenced on an auspicious note with an invocation song and lighting of lamp.
Mr. Sandeep addressed the gathering showering compliments to our college which provides holistic environment for overall development of students.
Exciting events were organized under the able guidance of teachers and also with assistance of passionate and sincere students.
Visual presentation, quiz, Sudoku, collage and many other literary events were conducted. Cultural events like mad ads, fashion walk, unique talent and many others were put up on the main stage.
Malhar was indeed the height of excitement for both I PUC and II PUC.

POLICE TALK "CYBER SAFETY"
Police talk was organized by Carmel Management for the students on 1st August 2016.
Cyber Safety, topic that is receiving close review worldwide was the keynote of the occasion. Mr. Venkatesh Murthy, senior manager at Data Security Council of India was the expert invited to address the gathering.
Mr. Venkatesh discussed various cyber crime cases like Midday newspaper case where a scammer hacked agency's server and created hoax in the city, hacking of US prisoners database and altering it, drug dealers mobile network scam an example of cyber stalking and many more. With all these real time cases analysis he strongly recommended students not to expose personal details on social sites which can be means for malicious users to exploit. He also explained how scammers attempt to obtain email passwords that may result in monetary thefts also.
He insisted to keep ourselves safe and secure on cyber by keeping the filters on, using smart security questions for our email ids, reviewing tags, enabling security and privacy controls and maintaining cyber hygiene.
Thus the entire session was highly informatic and realistic one.

VISIT TO JANAPADA LOKA
Our Kannada Sangha had organized one day educational trip on 16th July, 2016 to Janapada Loka. Janapada Loka or Folk World is a folk museum that has an exclusive display of the village folk arts of the Karnataka. It is situated in Ramnagar district, Karnataka on the Bangalore-Mysore highway.
The Carmelites began journey around 9.00 am. Janapada Loka is surrounded by lush greenery which seemed to be mesmerizing and refreshing moment.
The entry gate to the place gives an impressing greeting to the visitors. Museum is divided into separate wings: Folk and museum, Loka Mahal, Chitra Kuteera, Doddamane Shilamala, Arghyamala etc.
The museum has a collection of around 5000 artifacts. The concept of establishing museum is to exhibit the rich folk art and culture of Karnataka. Janapada loka is really a treasure dynasty of Folk museums as well as folk associated activities which invite students, people, plus research workers

The auspicious feast of our Lady Mount Carmel witnessed release of our annual magazine Odyssey- An Epic Journey. The dignitaries gracing the occasion were Rev. Odyssey- An Epic Journey
A small step may be the beginning of a great journey. The imperial power of knowledge is what distinguishes humans from other beings. He who has acquired this vast knowledge brings the world under his unquestionable custody. This power never comes to an individual as birthright but through constant touch with social inmates through time bound education. It’s a matter of pride that Carmel under the guidance of Mrs. Sandhya Menezes Principal, Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator along with trusted team of academic staff have made this journey possible for hundreds of students.
This magazine focuses on the journey of Carmelites potraying the world in Carmel plying words and artistic endeavors.

Feast of Lady Mount Carmel
Carmelites always wait for an occasion to celebrate and make merry.
16th July , 2016 was the feast of our Lady Mount Carmel which began with scrumptious breakfast. Entire Carmel family was decked up to grace the occasion.
Holy mass was carried over by Rev. Father Eric Rodrigues and Rev. Father Richard Menezes. Hymns praising God sung by the choir group embellished the entire celebration.
Rev. Father Eric Rodrigues addressed the gathering quoting teachers play a very influential role in student's life. He insisted teachers to be empathetic, understand student's needs and unwavering commitment to the field of education. He requested to exercise patience to teach even a disinterested student.
This auspicious occasion also witnessed the inauguration of Solar Power Panel at school by Rev. Father Eric Rodrigues. The entire crew of Solar Power Panel was felicitated by the management of Carmel Education Society.
Administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes elucidated the solar panel, an attempt towards Go Green initiative. He also expressed gratitude to teaching and non teaching staff of Carmel school and college.

Investiture Ceremony
Carmel PU College, Basaveshwarnagar Bangalore, had been buzzing with activity for more than week, with the students filing nominations and campaining for the Student Council Election. On the 27th of June, students elected their office bearers in a democratic fashion. Eva Saglani was elected as the President and Heena Khandelwal, Secretary of the college union. During the Investiture ceremony the council members were officially inducted into their office of authority by Dr.Gayathri Reddy, Special Officer, Vishweshwarya Technological University.
In her presidential address, she urged the students to grab opportunities that came their way. She also exhorted them to develop soft skills to procure jobs. Leaders she reminded should be visionaries and torch bearers . She urged them to steer their friends and the institution towards excellence.
The council shared their plans for the future and this fuelled the hopes and aspirations of the staff and students . The Administrator Mr.Roshan Menezes administered the oath and the Principal prayed for the leaders to have the strength to carry on their responsibilities. POCSO ACT 2012 TRAINING
The management of Carmel Education Society had organized training on POCSO ACT 2012 for both teaching and non teaching staff on 25th June 2016.
POCSO The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences ACT, 2012 is a law to strengthen the legal provisions for the protection of children from sexual abuse.
The speakers invited to educate the gathering were Mr. Umesh Assistant Commissioner Of Police, Vijayanagar division and Mrs. Anitha Shivkumar , coordinator of Parihar an NGO.
ACP, Mr. Umesh explained the structure of police department and also put forward the duties of police department under the POCSO ACT 2012.
Another speaker for the day Mrs. Anitha Shivkumar publicized the contact numbers of divisions of Child Welfare Committee—Makkala Sahayavani and Vanitha Sahayavani. She explained the salient features of POCSO Act 2012 as follows:
1) Act provides protection of children under age of 18 against sexual assault and harassment.
2) Act provides stringent punishment to the culprit.
3) Police officer not to be in uniform while recording the statement of victim.
4) All the cases under the POCSO act are administered under Child Welfare Committee. The chairman of Child Welfare Committee also addressed the gathering and clarified all the doubts of the staff members.

Personality Development for students
Carmel PU College had organized fabulous personality development session on "Goal Setting Through Illusions" by Dr. Rajesh Fernando on 24th June , 2016. Dr. Rajesh Fernando Head, Bangalore Education Cell gave plan for the students to set goals in their life. The plan involved the following D's- Dream, Design, Desire, and Drive. All this could be achieved , reiterated through Direction, Dedication, Determination to reach ones destination. He exhorted the students to dream differently.
The other plan he gave to set ones goal was to run to win, focus, apply one's mind, awake and arise to the occasion in order to reach the sky.
The last session was very poignant as he took the students through a journey o f self awareness. It provided them an opportunity to reconnect with themselves and discover a new.

Parent Orientation Programme
Parent orientation program was organized by Carmel management on 12th June , 2016 for the parents of I PUC students. The speaker invited for the day was Dr. Ali Khwaja , eminent career counsellor and life skills coach. Administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes welcomed the gathering with very insightful story.
Dr Ali shared funny anecdotes and other examples, all in a lighter vein, but drives home three points that if practised could help parents make the lives of their children wonderful.
1. Communication - LISTEN to our child.
2. Consistency in discipline - Be consistent in setting down rules, justifying, implementing and sticking to them.
3. Being a ROLE MODEL - Be the kind of person we want our children to be rather than just delivering homilies as children rarely listen to us, but are very good at mimicking us, our behavior.
He also urged parents to help child in setting a career goal and work out on future choice after II PUC. He also shared different careers available in streams like science, commerce and many more. He made it very clear that choosing career is perhaps the most important decision we take in our life. The right choice, based on not just "scope" and what everyone else is doing, but on one's own interest, inclination, aptitude and potential, can give a head start in this competitive world, and take you on the fast-track to success.
End of the session his words of wisdom were appreciated by the entire crowd.

Student Orientation
Student orientation programme was held on June 11th, 2016 to steer and welcome I PUC students. II PUC students Heena Khandelwal and Eva Saglani welcomed I PUC students their juniors with affable notes. Administrator sir, Carmel Education Society Mr. Roshan Menezes introduced himself to the students. This was followed by self introduction of staff members. Mr. Roshan Menezes vividly explained the rules and regulations of college to the students.
At Carmel orientations are handled by counseling experts and this time it was Mr. Ajith Kaikini. Ajit Kaikini a motivational trainer is a director of Buoyancee .
Counseling is very important in shaping students behaviour and performance. Mr. Ajith took students through many video clips of great people who achieved their goals only through hard work. Orientation programme enabled students understand how to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.
Many group activities were also conducted to familiarize students with each other.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day aims to inspire people to take action to prevent the growing strain on planet Earth's natural systems from reaching the breaking point. The2016 theme highlights the fight against the illegal trade in wildlife, which erodes precious biodiversity and threatens the survival of elephants, rhinos and tigers, as well as many other species. This year's slogan "Go Wild for Life" encourages to spread the word about wildlife crime
On 10th June , Carmel Eco-club in association with Biology department conducted a participative event of making collage on different issues of environmental pollution. The collages made covered land pollution, water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and also accentuating "Zero tolerance for the illegal trade in wildlife".
To grace the same occasion Birthday Planting Programme was also organized. Teaching staff and students donated plant sapling to the Carmel Eco Club.

World No Tobacco Day
World No Tobacco Day was first introduced by the World Health Organization to be celebrated as a most recognized event all over the world in order to make people easily get aware of all the problems and health complications occurred by the tobacco chewing or smoking to prevent all the health hazards to make the whole world free of tobacco and healthy world of people.
At Carmel Biology department had organized poster making, slogan writing and collage making competition on 31st May 2016 intending to aware and encourage people to reduce or completely stop the tobacco consumption in any form. The day celebration aims to draw public attention to spread the message of harmful effects of tobacco use as well as its complications to others.

Staff Orientation Programme
Staff orientation was organized by the management on 27th May 2016. Dr. Ravindran renowned Psychologist was the resource person for the orientation.
The keynote chosen for the orientation was counseling. The day began with the welcome address by administrator sir Mr. Roshan Menezes.
Dr. Ravindran began his talk by interacting with teachers about counseling. Dr. Ravindran gave thought to some real time scenarios and got the teachers to brainstorm sessions towards solution.
An overview of POSCO Act 2012 was also discussed. Dr. Ravindran urged teachers to empathize and not to be judgmental when students approach.
The entire session set teachers pondering and were well informed that counseling is actually empowering the child who is in jinxed state. Equipping students with life skills was very much asserted in the orientation.
Orientation concluded with the feedback by the teachers and Dr. Ravindran was profoundly thanked by each and everyone.
