Republic Day
69th Republic Day was celebrated by the staff and the students on 26th January with patriotic fervor. Principal Mrs.Sandhya Menezes hoisted the national flag and spoke on the role played by the constitutional matters. She emphasized on the role of teachers in building a civic society and also in moulding the young minds , preparing them to lead the country towards development. Mr.D Venkatesh, member of the staff council highlighted on the achievements and progress of the nation after independence, Mrs.Ramaa Kulkarni, Hindi lecturer rendered a patriotic song. Mrs.Vidya, English lecturer conducted the vote of thanks.

FAREWELL
Farewell was organized for the II PUC students on 20 Jan 2018. The students were gorgeously dressed which was a feast to the eyes. The programme began with an invocation sung by Sriraksha of I PUC. The day also marked the birthday celebration of our beloved Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes which was followed by the laying off the office of the Student Council. Few outgoing students shared their experience about their stay in the campus for 2 years which made everyone go nostalgic. Principal shared her best moments with this batch of students.
Mrs Shashikala, student advisor applauded the council members for successfully conducting various activities and also for carrying out their responsibility. She also wished the students to come out in flying colors. Mr. Roshan Menezes delivered a motivational talk by giving an example of an ant, a tiny creature but we human have much to learn from an ant, known for its team work, well planned for the future, always active, disciplined, never disturbed by crisscross situations etc. Students having 100% attendance were awarded for their punctuality. The band troop was honored and students having special features were also awarded. The management had hosted lunch for the staff and the students.

ANNUAL DAY
A sixteenth Annual Day celebration was held on 3rd January 2018. The programme began with offering Shraddhanjali to Late Mr. Alexander Menezes, Founder, Carmel Education society. Smt Manjula Naidu, Secretary, KPCC was the Chief Guest for the day. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator, Mrs. Dorothy Menezes, Director of Academics, Mrs. Florence D Souza, Principal, Carmel High School were also present. Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes presented the annual report . The day witnessed the releasing of the Annual Newsletter 'Carmel Inspiration'. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering in which she said dedication, determination and devotion is required to reach the ladder of success. This was followed by the important segment of the programme i.e. prize distribution ceremony. The deserving students were felicitated under various categories like Excellence in music, Sports, Literature, Best organizer, Best beat boxer, most creative and also Principal's award for the Best Class Representative, Best Conduct, most improved student, the most talented and so on. Mr. Ramkumar of II C and Miss Pooja P of II E got the Best Outgoing Students award. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator congratulated all the prize winners and felicitated the staff who have completed 10 years and 5 years of service at Carmel. The celebration came to an end with a Classical Dance performance by Tejaswini of 2D followed by National Anthem.

ETHNIC DAY
Carmelites celebrated Ethnic Day and also the birthday of Mr.Roshan Menezes , Administrator on December 5th . The whole campus was seemed to be charged with ethnic atmosphere with students in their dazzling , colorful , exquisite , traditional outfits . It was indeed a pleasant break from the monotony . Around 150 students took part in ramp walk. The judges for the day were Mrs.Disha Madan, dancer, founder of "Dance Corp" , Mr.Roshan Menezes , Administrator and Mrs.Shwetha S R . Students with best attire and best walk were selected to the talent round followed by the questionnaire round. Ganesh of II B was crowned Mr.Carmel and Lekhana of I A was crowned Miss Carmel.

SWARAKSHA
College had organized self defence programme on 15 th November for the students. Mr. Karthik S
Kateel, a Martial artist who was accompanied by his mother Mrs. Shobhalatha Kateel
demonstrated self defence techniques. He has trained more than 15000 girls in more than 394
institutions. All one needs is the presence of mind and ability to identify the weak points in the
attacker so that they can easily escape unhurt. The students were also taught how to hit back
when attacked by a stranger or a group of people. The students showed great zeal in learning self
defence techniques.

FOOD FEST
Food is the ingredient that binds everyone together. Carmelites believe that good food is all the
sweeter when shared. Food Fest was organized in the month of November for the noble cause. It
was a three day fest by the teaching faculty, I PUC and II PUC students. Tasty delicacies were
prepared and served. The funds collected was donated for the charity.

ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET
Sixteenth Annual Athletic meet was held on 11th November 2017 at Dr. BR Ambedkar Stadium,
Basaveshwaranagar. The Chief Guest of the day Sri BM Krishnamoorthy, a Taekwondo coach at
National and International level received the salute and declared the meet open. He addressed the
students and said perseverance, courage, confidence, being focused is essential to achieve one's
goal. Sports day brought new energy in the hearts and minds of the students as they took part in
events like shot-put, Discus throw, Javelin throw, 100 mtrs, 200 mtrs, 800 mtrs run and 4X100
mtrs relay. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator gave away the medals and certificates to all the
winners. The overall championship trophy was bagged by II PUC 'D' section.

KANNADA RAJYOTSAVA
RAJYOTSAVA was celebrated with great joy and vigor. The dawn of 1 st November was
welcomed with vibrant colors - Red and Yellow. The celebrations began with the lighting of the
lamp by Mrs Kavitha, Kannada Lecturer. 'Nityotsava' by the Kannada's greatest poet Prof. KS
Nissar Ahmed was sung by Mrs. Suma and Mrs. Ramaa Kulkarni. The staff and the student
council members sang the state anthem. Kannada Department had conducted quiz (on history of
Karnataka and Kannada literature) to the audience. The celebration ended with the distribution of
sweets.

ALEXANDER MEMORIAL CRICKET TOURNAMENT
The Alexander Memorial Cricket tournament was held on 29th October 2017 at Carmel Grounds
in memory of Late Mr. Alexander Menezes, the founder of Carmel Institution. Mr. Roshan
Menezes, Administrator was accompanied by Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal to cheer the
teams. The pitch was ready for the battle between the teams of First and Second year students.
While demonstrating their best team sprit, II PUC D Sec emerged to be winners and II PUC C
sec were the Runners. There were many categories of awards like -

LAKSHYA
A Career Guidance Programme was organized in association with Banjara Academy on 28th
October 2017. Dr. Ali Khwaja, Renowned Counsellor, Director, Banjara Academy addressed the
students and told them to choose their career based on their interest and aptitude. Aptitude is
nothing but a potential to develop the talent and build skills needed for a particular career. He
also asked the students to set long term goals. Resource persons of various fields- Design and
Creativity, Legal studies, Engineering, Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Ayurveda, Armed
forces/NDA, Creative career, Humanities, Commerce, Interaction with Alumni were available in
the venue for the students to explore and make informed decisions on education and career
pathways. The programme helped the students to make choice based on their interest, abilities
and passion, while considering current and future career opportunities. Students of the
neighboring schools and colleges also attended the programme.

Awareness Programme for Girls
An Awareness programme with an interactive session was organized for the girls on 23rd August
2017. Dr. Usha, Gynecologist, Gleneagles Global Hospitals was a spokesperson. The doctor
spoke on General concerns, Sex education, Personal hygiene, Importance of balanced diet,
Breast cancer, Cervical cancer and many other related topics. On the whole, the session was
found to be very useful and informative to the teenagers.

Personality Development Programme
Personality Development Programme in association with Deccan Herald was organized for PU
students. Mr. Deepak Justin, a successful public speaker, a man who can lift the spirit of others with his
own indomitable inner convictions delivered a motivational talk on the topics , Positive Thinking &
Proactivity , Mind Mapping .
Mr. Deepak said positive thinking is a proactive choice, that is you have chance to make your
goals come true. Our behavior is a function of our decisions not our conditions and we have the
responsibility to make things happen. Positive thinking often creates positive action but these actions
require efforts. Students were made to understand the difference between reacting and responding. Instead
of reacting to events and waiting for opportunities one should create their own event and opportunities.
Reactive people tend to be out of touch with their own motives, proactive people on the other hand are
aware of their strength. Students were given random situations to enact and they were also told of many
instances where people have shown heightened positive attitude even in an abnormal condition.
Mind mapping allow students to visually structure their ideas to help with analysis and recall. It
helps in visualizing concepts, improves reading and writing skills, increase retention and benefits students
achievement level. The significance of the concept was made understood to the students through many
examples.

Orientation Programme for PU Economics Lecturers
An Orientation Programme for PU Economics lecturers was conducted by PU Board and
it was our privilege to host the programme at our Recreation Centre. The programme was
inaugurated by Deputy Director Pre-University Education, Bangalore North by lighting the lamp.
Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal welcomed the speakers and lecturers of various colleges.
The following speakers gave lecture for the below mentioned topics :
- Co-relation - Mrs. Pushpalatha, Lecturer in Economics, Government PU College,
Malleswaram 13th cross, Bangalore.
- Measures of Central Tendencies , Measures of Dispersion and Index Numbers -
Mr. Anand KS, Asst. Prof. in Statistics, St. Joseph's Arts and Science College,
Bangalore.
- Blue Print, Programme of work and model question paper - Mr. Veeraraju MV,
Lecturer in Economics, Government PU College, HSR Layout, Bangalore.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Krutika, Lecturer, Dept of
Commerce Carmel PU College. The college had also organized lunch on that day

Blood Donation Camp
Carmel college community service centre in association with Lions club of Bengaluru, Royal palace and Lions club of Bengaluru Gokula had organized Blood donation camp on 9th September 2017 in sports arena basement. Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes welcomed the gathering. Lion Dr. Shailesh Kumar, President of LCB Royal palace, Lion Sridharan, President of LCB Gokula, Lion Dr. Geetha KN Pro Dist 317 F. Sec. LCB Royal place, Lion Muniappa, Mr. Roshan Menezes. Administrator, Mrs Dorothy Menezes, Director of Academics shared the Dais.
Mrs Roshan Menezes, Administrator was a true inspirer to the camp as he was the first among others to donate blood. The camp was a success as 50 units of blood was collected. Refreshments was arranged to the donors.
Thanks to volunteers of community service and the student council members who played a key role in spreading awareness on donating blood.

Teacher's Day
Teacher's Day was celebrated on 5th September 2017 in the Sports Arena Basement. Smt Malini Krishnamoorthy, IPS, Inspector General of Police and Addl. Commissioner of Police, West, Bengaluru city was the Chief Guest for the day. She truly inspired the teachers with her talk on current issues related to students and teachers. She said teaching is the fundamental basis of every facet of society and without teachers there would be no society.
Prof. M D Nanjunda, the founder secretary, Coorg Public School, Gonikoppal was the Guest of Honour. He addressed the teachers and told them to remain ambitious and have positive attitude to teach as being a teacher is the best blessing. He also said that one book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.
Mrs Dorothy Menenzes, Director of Academics, the strong pillar of Carmel Education Society was felicitated for her commendable 50 years of service in the education field. The management felicitated the retired teachers for their service rendered to the institution. The teaching faculty of both school and college were appraised with mementos.
The day left everyone with lot of memories. The management had also organized lunch for the staff members.
Student Council had organized Teacher's Day Celebration on Sept 6, 2017. Games like arm wrestling, musical arm and antakshari were also conducted for the lecturers who enthusiastically took part along with the principal. The teaching faculty were also asked to follow the dress code during that week like – Twin day, Traditional wear, Accessories day, Formal wear etc. The celebration came to an end with 'Tug of War' between the members of the student council and the Non-teaching staff.

INDEPENDENCE DAY
The college and school together celebrated 71st Independence Day with great gusto. The chief guest of the day Mr. Sridhar, a social worker and the recipient of the 'Kempegowda award' unfurled the National Flag and received the salute. Mrs. Dorothy Menezes, Director of Academics addressed the students and told them to develop patriotic feelings and to be proud of their motherland. She also emphasized the need for discipline along with liberty and freedom as essential ingredients for the country's growth and development. Entertainment programme was also a part of celebrations. Dances were choreographed to spread the message of unity in diversity.
Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator, Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal, Carmel PU College and Dr. Florence D'Souza, Principal of Carmel High School were also present. The celebration ended with the distribution of sweets to the students.

MALHAR
'Malhar' - an Intra Collegiate fest was held on 14th August 2017. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Miss Pooja Raj Purohit, an Ex-Carmelite and Zumba trainer. Miss Pooja addressed the students and asked them to enrich their knowledge and enhance skills to meet the challenges and also remain enthusiastic in participating all the co-curricular activities organized by the Institution.
'Malhar' provided a platform to the students to feature their talent in arts, literature, music, dance, photography, science, fashion and lots more. There was a tough competition among the classes to win the trophy. At the end, II PUC 'B' section bagged maximum number of prizes in various activities and the overall trophy by II PU students .
Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes was present the whole day encouraging the students to perform well and admiring their talent.

FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
The Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel , the patroness of Carmel education Society was celebrated on 15th July 2017 . On this day we recall Mary's motherly patronage , guidance and her loving care and protection . Arch Bishop of Bangalore , His Grace Most Rev.Bernard Moras was the main celebrant at the Eucharistic celebrations . Fr. Eric Rodrigues , C.Ss.R , President of Carmel Education society , Fr.Dolphy Pais , Provincial , Capuchin Fathers graced the occasion . The programme started by seeking almighty's blessing through a prayer service followed by the significance of the day .
Mr. Roshan Menezes , Secretary , Carmel Education Society welcomed the gathering . Mrs. Dorothy Menezes , Founder of Carmel High School briefed about the institution as it is celebrating Golden Jubilee. Mrs. Sandhya Menezes , Principal of Carmel PU College , requested Rev. Bernard Moras to release the college Annual Magazine "Shaping Minds" . Dr. Florence D'Souza , Principal of Carmel High School proposed the vote of thanks . The members of the Carmel Education Society , the teaching faculty of Carmel High School and Carmel PU College were also present .

INVESTITURE CEREMONY
An exciting new start , Investiture Ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp . The chief guest , Mr. Prabhu Swamy , Sub-Inspector of Police , Basaveshwaranagar Police Station , unveiled the banner and also adorned the newly appointed council members with badges and sashes . Mr. Roshan Menezes , administrator of the college , administered the oath to the leaders . The chief guest was accompanied by Mr. Raghu , investigation writer , who addressed the students and spoke on child rights and emphasized on the role of today's youth in making a better India . Principal of the college , Mrs. Sandhya Menezes , congratulated the office bearers and also felicitated those who excelled in II PUC - March 2017 board exams . Mrs. Dorothy Menezes , director of academics of Carmel High School and Dr. Florence D'souza , Principal of Carmel High School also graced the occasion . STAFF ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
Staff orientation programme was conducted for the faculty members under the guidance of Mr. Roshan Menezes , the Administrator and the Principal on 27th May 2017 . Mr. Simerjeeth Singh , a motivational speaker conducted the programme under the headline " Reignite your passion for teaching and making your enthusiasm contagious " . He highlighted on intrinsic motivation , to tap into the unlimited potential one has . The teachers were told to remain to have the passion for teaching and to motivate students to achieve better to take 100% responsibility in our act and develop an attitude of positive expectancy as teachers play a key role in discovering student’s strengths .
Another orientation programme to the faculty members was conducted in association with the Poorna Prajna Institute of Faculty improvement . Mrs. Avanthi , the resource person spoke on hoe to motivate students to do well academically . She spoke on the strategies to generate motivation and the three factors of motivation i.e., curiosity , control and cooperation .

STUDENTS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
The college organized an Orientation Programme to I PUC students . Mr. Roshan Menezes , the Administrator and Mrs. Sandhya Menezes , the Principal briefed the students on the code of conduct and asked them to adhere to the rules and regulations of the institution and also focus on academic excellence .
Mr. Mayank Solanki , the youth motivator propelled the students by telling them to dream and work hard to achieve their dream . The students were inspired by his motivational talk .

Orientation Programme for the parents of I PUC students was organized on 11th June . Mr. Roshan Menezes , the administrator addressed the parents .
Mr. Ajith Kaikini from Buoyancee spoke to the gathering about positive parenting . The session was interesting as Mr. Ajit gave tips regarding how to motivate their wards
