News and Events: 2018-2019


ALUMNI MEET


A wave of nostalgia sloshed through the corridors of Carmel, as it was time for the alumni meet on 3rd Feb. Alumni from the very first year to the latest batch turned up for the event. The day started with a cricket match for the alumni, many teams participated and finally the best team won. The winners and runners were suitably rewarded. A throwball match was held between the teachers and the students and was another fun filled event. During fellowship, the alumni shared their wonderful memories at Carmel. A new core of alumni association was formed for the next year.




REPUBLIC MEET


The seventieth Republic Day was celebrated on the 26th of January 2019 by the Carmelites with great gusto. Mrs Shylaja Lecturer in English hoisted the National flag.




ANNUAL DAY


The Annual Prize Distribution Day was held on 19th January. Dr.Latha Christie, Senior Scientist, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt of India presided over the function. In her thought provoking speech she taught three valuable lessons for life, viz., to be the entrepreneur of one’s life, to be the beautiful one you are created & to be the flower that blooms in adversity. The speech imbibed the students with great confidence. The anecdotes she recounted ignited their passion to excel in their life. The Principal presented the Annual Report of the year 2018 – 19; highlighting the achievements of the staff & the students.

Students who excelled in various fields were duly recognized & awarded Proficiency prizes were given to subject and class toppers. Sanchith B. Anand, was conferred with the Best Outgoing Student (Boy) & Samyuktha with the Best Outgoing Student (Girl). Classwise prizes were also declared in two categories, Scholastic & Non – Scholastic. IC bagged the Scholastic Trophy , IID Non – Scholastic Trophy and IIA Best class Trophy. Mrs G N Roopa Dept of Physics and Mr Jagadish Lab Asst, Chemistry lab were honoured for their completion of ten years and five years of their service to the institution.




FAREWELL DAY


A farewell ceremony was arranged in honour of the outgoing students of CPUC on 18th January 2019. The programme began with an innvocation song followed by lighting the lamp. The Principal, Mrs.Sandhya Menezes addressed the students and Mr.Roshan Menezes, the Admininstrator wished the students welfare and advised them to prepare themselves to save the nation in future. Some students expressed their deep love and gratitude to their teachers for their guidance and teaching 2 years. Different titles were awarded to different students like Best Smile, Best Personality and so on summing up, the day was great filled with nostalgia and fun.




ETHNIC DAY


It was not just another normal day in the college as the campus was bursting with enthusiasm and passion. The faculty and the students joined hands to celebrate and showcase our culture and tradition by celebrating ETHNIC DAY. The students not only donned an Ethnic attire but also showcased the ethnic dresses by walking the ramp and displayed their poise. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Nabila Jamaludin, a TV9 News Reporter and the special invitee was Mrs. Seema, whose gracious presence added extra glamour to the occasion. The students were judged after the three gruelling competitive rounds like walking the ramp, showcasing their talent and finally interacting with the judges. All of them were equally charming and intelligent making it a difficult job for the judges to decide the winners. The judges crowned the best participants in each category.




KANNADA RAJYOTSAVA


November 1st was the day to hold our head high and salute our State Karnataka. Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with great pomp and cheer. The celebration began with the lighting of the lamp by Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes. Sreeraksha and Meenakshi of 2A sang Hachchevu Kannadada Deepa as a mark of respect to the State. Then the staff and the students sang Nada Geethe [State Anthem].Kannada department had organised quiz on History of Karnataka and Kannada Literature for the students.




RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS [NATIONAL UNITY DAY]


Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was observed on 31st October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel who was instrumental in keeping India united. Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes administered the pledge to the staff and the students to foster and reinforce their dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of our Nation.

VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK


The week in which 31st October, the birthday of late Sardar Vallabhai Patel falls is observed as Vigilance Awareness Week to achieve a corruption free society. The Principal, staff and the students took a pledge to uphold highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency and good governance. Essay writng competition was conducted for the students for creating greater awareness on Eradicate Corruption and Build New India.




ANNUAL SPORTS MEET


The 17th Annual Sports meet was held on 13.10.2018 at Dr Ambedkar Stadium. Dr Gayathri Reddy, Director, Sports Dept DPUE presided over the inauguration. In her presidential address she enumerated the advantages of physical education. It helped to keep one fit and would also open up many career opportunities in the field of sports.

The day was preceded by a fortnight of sporting activities. Intramural matches were held in various events like carrom, chess, table tennis, long jump, shot put. The spirit of competition rubbed on the teachers also. Special matches were held for the staff and support staff too.

ALEXANDER CRICKET TOURNAMENT


Cricket is the game that fires the spirit of the youth and Alexander Memorial Tournament on 8th October 2018 provided an opportunity to fan that fire. The limited overs matches helped the boys to exhibit their techniques and skill on the field. Nine teams represented the nine classes in the knock out series. II B won Alexander Memorial Trophy. The other prize winners are as follows:

GANDHI JAYANTHI


Carmel college remembered the Father of the Nation on his 150th Birth Anniversary on 2nd October by organizing a special programme. Bhajans were sung in commemoration followed by a trivia on Gandhi. In order to propogate his dogma,”Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, the staff and the students extended their Carmel Swachh Campaign by cleaning the college campus and its surroundings.



TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATION


Teacher's Day provided the students an opportunity to shower their love and regards for their teachers on 5/9/2018. Dress codes were given to the teachers for almost a week, so that they could deck themselves to show their love in turn for the students. It also provided the students a chance to see their teachers in a new light. Various games were organized by the council and management. Teachers participated in all these games with great enthusiasm. Prize winners of the various competitions were felicitated by the students.




"SELF CONFIDENCE" - MR.CHANDRASHEKAR


A personality development workshop was held on 8/9/2018 for the students of I PUC in collaboration with The Hindu, as part of its NIE programme. The topic was "Self Confidence", and the resource person was Mr Chandrashekar. He urged the students to imbibe self confidence in their lives, as it would help them to gain knowledge and competence. He also gave tips on how to develop self confidence. The stories, he narrated of people with supreme self confidence, motivated students.



WALKATHON


WALKATHON WAS HELD ON THE ACCOUNT OF SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY BY SAMADHAN AND CARMEL PU COLLEGE on 16/09/2018.




BLOOD DONATION CAMP


Carmel College Community Service in association with Lions club of Bengaluru, Royal Palace and Lions club of Bengaluru Gokula had organized Blood Donation camp on 1st September 2018 at sports arena basement. Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes welcomed the gathering. Lion Raju Chandrashekhar, District co-ordinator, Youth Development spoke on the importance of blood donation. Lion Dr. Deepa Sheshadri Iyer, President of LCB royal palace, Lion Dr. Geetha K N, Founder Member and secretary of LCB Royal Palace, Lion Chandrashekar, President of LCB, Gokula, Lion Muniappa and Lion Ramakrishna, District Chairperson for Blood Donation shared the dais. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator was a true inspirer as he was first among others to donate blood. Thanks to Community Service volunteers, College Alumni members, teaching faculty, the support staff, students and donors for their selfless voluntary act of donating blood and made possible to collect 102 units of blood.




RENDEZVOUS-2018


The Intercollegiate Fest - Rendezvous took off to a colorful start on 25th august 2018. The mega event began with an invocation song and a Fashion walk featuring the theme of 'Protecting the Girl Child' and this was followed by a Rajasthani folk dance unveiling the trophy. There were more than 30 events and around 42 pu colleges across the city took part. 'Foodathon - an event that was added this year received an overwhelming response. The evening witnessed a cultural extravaganza of events like Western Acoustics, Indian Dance and Fashion Show. Mrs.Prathama Prasad Rao and Mr.Surya Rao. Both classical dancers and cine artists were the guests of honor for the Valedictory Function. Mount Carmel PU College won the overall trophy.




TRANSFORMATION THROUGH MOTIVATION - MR. ARJUN DEVAIAH


Personality Development programme was held on 20 August 2018 for 2nd pu Science and Commerce students. Mr. Arjun Devaiah, a motivational speaker began the session with Swami Vivekananda's words- Arise, Awake, Stop not till you reach your goal. Human beings have got infinite capacity. The objective of this programme was to awake the students and make them to realize their infinite capacity through motivation. Students were told to imbibe "Never Give Up" attitude in them to achieve their set goal. Dreams fail if there is no effort and youngsters have oscillating mind if there is no proper direction.



INDEPENDENCE DAY


Freedom in the Mind, Strength in the Words, Pride in our Souls. 72nd Independence Day celebration was held in the college campus. To commemorate the sovereignty of the nation Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes unfurled the tricolor flag and all in unison sang the National Anthem. Meenakshi of 2A sang a patriotic song. Principal in her message highlighted India's incredible growth over 72 years and the developments that led us to make a mark in numerous areas at global level. Sweets were distributed to the students.




GOAL SETTING - Mr.CHANDRASHEKAR


On 28th July 2018, a session on GOAL SETTING was held for I PU Science and Commerce students. Mr. Chandrashekar, a freelance writer, the resource person told students that goal setting is an important step which includes short term and long term goals. A goal is a dream with a map and a time frame. Dreams have no limits but to achieve them one should be realistic, practical and make it possible without giving up. Students were asked to stretch their limits of exploring plenty of opportunities instead of sticking to conventional streams and careers. Stories were narrated to make students realize and understand that difficulties, obstacles and barriers should not be an hindrance to achieve one's goal.



Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel


Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of Carmel Education Society was celebrated on 16th July 2018. The celebration began by seeking almighty's blessing through a prayer service. The choir sang soulful numbers. Rev. Fr. Sylvester, the Chief celebrant spoke on the significance of the day and also the power of prayer, faith and submission to God's will. Rev. Fr. urged the teachers to promote and teach positive values implicitly through every aspect of the curriculum. Mr. Dorothy Menezes, the Director of Academics, Mr. Roshan Menezes, the Administrator, Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal and Dr. (Mrs) Florence D'Souza, Principal, Carmel High School graced the occasion. Later games were held for the staff. The celebration concluded on a happy note.



Annual Magazine - 2017


The auspicious feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel witnessed the release of our Annual Magazine 2017- CHRYSALIS, An epic transformation. The magazine was released by Rev. Fr. Sylvester. Mrs Shylaja, Lecturer, Dept of English gave an insight to the magazine. Chrysalis is an important stage in the life cycle of a butterfly that undergoes fundamental changes. So as our students transformed into independent and responsible individuals during their stay at Carmel. The magazine highlights on the events held during 2017-18 and also the achievements of our staff and students. Thanks to the Editorial Committee in making this magazine as colour as a butterfly under the guidance of our principal, Mrs Sandhya Menezes.



Effective Communication skills - Mrs. Sudha Nambiar


On 23 July 2017, a session on effective communication skills was organized for II PU science and commerce students. Mrs. Sudha Nambiar, soft skills trainer, freelance content writer, career counselor was the resource person. Communication is a dynamic process that has to be cultivated and nurtured. The ability to communicate effectively is an essential skill in today's world Mrs. Sudha Nambiar spoke on the features of effective communication which includes active listening, transmitting information using gestures and body language, asking questions, being clear and to be empathetic and confident. The session was made more interesting through fun-filled activities to enhance students listening & writing skill. The session also focused on paraphrasing, summarizing and the importance of questioning the speaker.



OUR STUDENTS AT RAJATHA SOUNDARYA CELEBRATIONS


Soundarya Educational Trust celebrated their 25th Anniversary as Rajatha Soundarya Celebrations on 07.07.2018. Bharatha Ratna Prof .Dr. C.N.R RAO was the chief guest of the occasion. They had conducted an exhibition of project in Science and Technology for students. Our students who took part in the event are Aniketh U Achar, Ali Abbas Nazmi, Sathvik H R and Tharun. Their project description includes a miniature version of house built on a thermocol base and the house is shaped with thermocol itself. It consists of many smart electronic circuits used to automate the house.




VALUES COMMUNICATED THROUGH ILLUSION - RAJESH FERNANDO


Magic might be an art of entertainment but for Mr. Rajesh Fernando, the Guinness Record holder, it's a way to send across the mantra of success. The college had organized a talk on values which could be taught through magic on 04th July 2018. The magician taught students the lessons of achieving goals in life with 9 D's - Dream, Design, Desire, Drive, Direction, Decision, Determination, Dedication and Destination. He said students should overcome fear to face challenges in their life as fear destroys mind, feelings and life. He motivated the students by narrating many interesting incidents which made the students to feel emotional and realize the facts of their life.




MALHAR


MALHAR- an intra-collegiate festival was held on 30 June 2018. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the Day Mr. Chandan, an Ex-Carmelite, architect, cine-artist, dancer and choreographer. The day commenced on an auspicious note with an invocation song. Mr. Chandan recalled his days at Carmel and said nothing in life worth having comes easy. He expressed his gratitude to the principal and the faculty for their constant support and encouragement that helped him to achieve balance in academics and his passion for dance. Mr. Roshan Menezes, the Administrator gave a call to the students to make the best of the opportunities that comes their way. Mrs Sandhya Menezes, Principal, Mrs Dorothy Menezes, Director of Academics graced the occasion. Malhar provided a platform to Carmelites to showcase their talent in Literature, Art, Science, Marketing, Music, Dance, Mad-ads, Fashion show and lots more.




YOGA DAY 2018-2019


International yoga day was held on Friday 22nd of June with the presence of our principal MrsSandhya Menezes and Nethravathi, the yoga instructor. The teaching faculty and the students took part in the programme. Yoga is a form of exercise that originated in ancient India and is practiced widely across the world. Yoga not only enchances one's physical strength but also contributes largely towards one's mental/health and spiritual growth. On 21st June 2015 world yoga day was observed for the 1st time across the world and has since been celebrated annually.




INVESTITURE CEREMONY


The solemn ceremony held on 21st June 2018 marked the installation of the students council,Aishwarya of Istpuc, B section welcomed the gathering with an invocation dance . Rev. Fr. Prem a parish priest, Manager of Assumption High School, Rajajinagara was the Chief guest for the day. The ceremony began with lighting the lamp to give an auspicious beginning. The chief guest adorned the newly elected members with badges and sashes. MrRoshanMenezes, the Secretary administered oath to the leaders by asking the members to take up their duties with integrity, faith and excellence. The chief guest addressed the students and made them realize the values of service and sincerity. The college choir sang 'Hall of Fame'to cheer the new council members. Students who had topped in Board Exams 2017-2018 were felicitated. Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal congratulated all the prize winners and also wished the student council members. Mrs Dorothy Menezes, Director of Academics and Mrs Florence D'souza, Principal of Carmel High School graced the occasion. Mrs. Anitha, student Advisor proposed the vote of thanks.

Parents Orientation


Orientation programme for the parents of I PUC was conducted on 03 June 2018. Principal Mrs. SandhyaMenezes welcomed the gathering Mr. Roshan Menezes, the administrator briefed on the inception of the institution. He invited parents to become effective co-ordinators along with the teachers and mentors for the benefit of their wards. As tutorials have taken precedence these days, he advised parents not to consider the college only for the documentation purpose but make best use of the excellent coaching given in Carmel.

Later Mr. Arjun Devaiah, mentor and counselor addressed the parents and gave tips on parenting teenagers. The simple mantra for success of their wards is to provide a happy and pleasant atmosphere at home which will thereby improve their overall performance. In an interactive session Mr. Arjun Devaiah eagerly answered the queries of the parents.




Students Orientation


Orientation programme for the I PU students was held on 02 June 2018. Mrs SandhyaMenezes, Principal welcomed the freshers. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator addressed all the aspiring students who have stepped into the institution of their dreams for their intellectual pursuit for the next 2 years. He enumerated the rules and regulations of the institution, how to ascend in academics and also do adapt their mind that Carmel is the second home as such the students feel at home. Later Mr. Arjun Devaiah, National and International athlete, Arjun Awardee, mentor and student counselor spoke on personality development and Time management skills. As an oscillating mind is always restless and is easily distracted, he advised students to have a steady mindset and be focused to reach their goals. He also told students to face failure positively and let it not affect one's deterministic attitude to be successful.




Staff Orientation


After a refreshing season of holidays, the staff members were back to the college with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.Orientationprogramme for the staff was conducted on 19th May 2018. Mrs Avanti, Senior faculty, Poornaprajna Institute of Faculty Improvement, was the resource person. The objective of the programme was to provide strategies for teachers to stay motivated in their profession and in turn motivate students to enjoy learning. The teachers were facilitated with some new teaching strategies and adopt creative teaching methods that include Sensory, Emotional, Intellectual and Value components in the lesson plans. The programme included interactive session too which was informative and helpful.
