MALHAR – A Shower of Talents

Malhar "Shower Of Talents 2022" an inter-class event was celebrated on 27th July, 2022. The chief guest for the event was an Alumnus Mr. H C Kishore Chandra, Artist, Actor, musician and Lyricist. The other dignitaries who embraced the occasion were Administrator, Mr. Roshan Menezes, Principal, Mrs. Sandhya Menezes and Carmel High School Principal, Mr. Shajid Antony.


The day commenced on an auspicious note with an invocation song and lighting of lamp. Mr. Kishore addressed the gathering showering compliments on our college which provides holistic environment for overall development of students. This year the theme was "AMAZING INDIA".


Exciting events were organized to promote and encourage students t o develop their talents in Art, Literary and Cultural fields. Declamation,Science Quiz(Digital), Rangoli, Mehendi, Pencil Sketching, Product Launch, Picture composition, Movie Quiz, Fireless Cooking, 20 questions, Powerpoint Presentation, Spell Bee, Shloka Picturization, Duet Singing, Unique Talent, Cultural Extravaganza, Malhar Reels and Treasure Hunt were some of the competitions that were held.




FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of Carmel Education Society was celebrated on 16th July, 2022 at Silver Oak Resort near Doddaballapura. On this day, we recall Mother Mary's motherly patronage, guidance and her loving care and protection.


Fr. Joseph Royan C.Ss.R Redemptorist, Holy Ghost Church, his Grace was the main celebrant at the Eucharistic celebrations. The programme started with the seeking of the almighty's blessing through a prayer service followed by sharing the significance of the day. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Secretary, Carmel Education Society welcomed the gathering and thanked the gathering for their presence and participation in the celebrations. Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, the Principal rendered the prayer. Mr. Shajid Antony, Principal of Carmel High School, teaching and non teaching faculty of Carmel High School and Carmel PU College were also present.


The day ended on a festive note as all the Carmelites broke into dance and played various games in rejoice the auspicious day.




International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day was observed on June,2022. Students performed various yoga asanas demonstrated by Vibha Swamy of II A. Mrs. Ramaa Kulkarni, Dept of Hindi spoke on the occasion. She highlighted how Yoga was the most inexpensive ancient practice that could be performed anywhere and needed no expensive gear or equipment. Mrs.Sandhya Menezes, Principal shared with the students the various protocols to be followed while performing the asanas. She urged he students to carry it forward on a daily basis as it would improve their concentration and overall health.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY




Parents' Orientation

The parents of the I PUC attended an orientation programme on the 11th June, 2022. Mr.Roshan Menezes urged the parents to encourage their children in the paths chosen by them. Co-curricular, extra curricular, and sports activities were equally important in the holistic development of the students, so parents should teach their children how to balance the two. It was followed by a briefing on Parents’ Eye App by Mr. Nagaraju. The app would be an effective tool of communication between the teachers, parents and the students. It would also help them to keep a track on their ward’s academic performance.




Students' Orientation

Orientation programmes were organized on the 6th and 8th of June 2022 for the I and II PUC students respectively. Mr.Roshan Menezes, the administrator of the institution addressed the students. He emphasized “Learning to learn is fun” so to make use of the time at college to learn and at the same time to enthusiastically participate in all the activities of the college. Mrs. Mrs.Sandhya Menezes, the Principal prepared them for the college life by briefing them about the college and the code of conduct to be followed. The session helped the students to allay their fears as they were entering a new whole world.




Environment Day

World Environment Day was celebrated on 6th June , 2022. The day’s celebration started with the watering of a plant. Ms.Pranavi of II B spoke on the importance of the environment. A quiz was also conducted on the occasion. The prize winners were suitably rewarded with medicinal plants with the intention of benefitting from them and increasing the green cover.




Carmel Run 2022

The resurgence of normal life has instilled in people all across the world to re-emphasize on fitness and good health. Carmel Education Society also saw the dire need and has set fitness and good health as its primary goals for this academic year. Keeping in the mind their primary objective ‘Carmel Run’ was organized on 22nd May at Balagangadharanath Swamiji Stadium, Vijay Nagar, Bangalore.


The run spread across three categories 10k, 5k and 3k drew an overwhelming response. Over 500 amateurs along with elite professionals participated. The event was flagged off by Mr.Somanna.V Former Minister, Govt. of Karnataka , Mr.Suresh Kumar MLA Rajaji Nagar, and Mr.Deviaha ,Olympian and Arjuna Awardee.


Parents, Staff, alumni and students along with their families and friends participated in the first edition of Carmel Run enthusiastically. Notable participants who drew great admiration were septuagenarian and national level athlete , Mr. Puttuswamy Gowda and sexagenarian Ashok Ashra, who ran the full course.




LECTURE ON NEP

Carmel Education Society organized an interactive session on NEP 2020 for the benefit of the school and college staff on 7th April in the basement of the Sports Arena. Prof. Dr. Leena Chandra Wadia, Member, Drafting Committee was the resource person. She provided a birds' eye view on NEP’s vision and its key elements.


She also highlighted that NEP was a transformative policy and that it aimed at changing the paradigm of learning. The broader spectrum she stated was designed by the committee and it was up to the teachers and the managements to explore various means of implementing it. The lecture was followed by a Q and A session where teachers raised many queries to get more clarity.




ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION AND FAREWELL DAY

It was time to bid farewell to the first batch of Covid babies. Though their time was very limited at the campus, they did leave large footprints in our hearts. The event was held on 26th March,2022 at the Recreation Centre, where the air was filled with bittersweet memories. The Day was clubbed with the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony. Mrs.Sandhya Menezes, Principal, presented the Annual Report and gave some resounding advice to the II PUC students. She urged the students to ACHIEVE much in life. The acronym she said stood for proper Attitude, correct Choices, good Habits, full Involvement, sporty Enthusiasm, human Values, and Emotional Quotient that one should develop in life.


Mr.Roshan Menezes, Administrator then addressed the students. He narrated a beautiful story to highlight how one's actions reflect one’s upbringing and value systems. Mrs.Geevitha, Students' Advisor traced the journey of the Students' Council and how they were involved with the various activities of the college and acted as a bridge between the management and the students. II PUC student then shared their beautiful moments at Carmel.


Students’ scholastic achievements were recognized with certificates. The Best Outgoing Boy and Best Outgoing Girl were awarded to students who were models of excellence in all spheres of activity. Ms.Aiswarya Joshi of II A and Mr.Mohammed Fazil of II C were conferred with the titles for the academic year 2020-2022.




NATIONALISM COMES TO THE FORCE

73rd Republic Day was celebrated with great fervor at Carmel. Mrs.Sandhya Menezes unfurled the National Flag and addressed the gathering. She recalled the great contributions of the freedom fighters with gratitude. She also observed as how the Republic Day had become a day when the country could commemorate its epoch making citizens. Personnel from the defense and police were awarded for their gallantry and the civilians through Padma awards for their meritorious contribution in myriad fields. This year awards were extended to people for extending their strength, wisdom and courage. Mam also urged the teachers and students to retain their indianess at all times in everything they did. It would fill them with pride and love for their nation.


Mrs.Suma and Mrs.Ramaa sang soulful songs which reverberated with patriotism and invoked nationalism. Keeping in mind Covid protocols, this year a video of the celebration was made and posted online.




ETHNIC DAY

Ethnic Day is the most exhilarating and the most anticipated event at Carmel. A day when passion, fashion and talent run high. Owing to the pandemic the first round of Fashion Walk was held virtually. The students posted videos of their fashion walk. 19 students were short listed for the second round which was held offline. In the second round, the contestants exhibited their jaw dropping talent and vowed the judges and the audience. The third and final round was the title clincher. Judges posed tricky and thought provoking questions and expected out of the box and witty answers. After three rounds of nerve wracking and nail biting finish, Afnan Anjum Pasha of II C was crowned Ms.Carmel and S.S.Adithya of I A was declared Mr.Carmel. In addition to these prizes many other titles were also bestowed upon the contestants which left them exhilarated.


Though this year the Fashion Walk was a low key affair it did not fail to steal the charm and gaiety usually associated with it.




NATIONAL VOTER'S DAY

The NSS unit of the college observed National Voter's Day on January 25th, by taking a pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of the country. The volunteers also participated in the competitions conducted by the PU Board on the occasion. Aniketh of IC secured III Prize in the Poster Designing Competition at District Level.




25th NATIONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL 2022

National Youth Festival is observed every year to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The 25th edition of National Youth Festival was held virtually on the 12th and 13th of January. It was hosted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt of India in association with the Puducherry Govt. The theme this year was "It's all in the Mind."


The festival was inaugurated by Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India who gave an invigorating speech on what youth could achieve today . It was followed by many prominent speakers from various walks of life. Some eminent speakers included: Anurag Thakur who spoke on "Skill India and Startup India". Actor Randeep Hooda spoke on 'Sustained Development', Dr.Hindol Senguptha taught students 'Nation building and change Leaders'. 'Indigenous Ancient Wisdom ' was dealt by Dr Vikram Sampath, Shri Dushyant Sridhar spoke on ' Fascinating Mathematics'. Mr. Vijaya Shekar discussed about India's role as a torch bearer. Mr Sanjeev Sanyal elucidated 'How River Saraswati was placed in the Rig Vedha'.


A townhall of Olympians and Paralympics spoke on how PM's Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao and Beti Khilao had inspired them.


A select number of Carmelites attended the festival. The highlight of the programme was the leadership building course the students attended.




FUND RAISER ON THE OCCASION OF FOUNDERS' DAY

On 10.1.2022 NSS UNIT of the college celebrated the Birth Anniversary of the Founder of Carmel Education Society by organising a fund raiser. Volunteers created beautiful pieces of art and craft and sold it to their teachers and friends to a tune ten thousand rupees. The funds raised was donated to The Vimukti Charitable Trust. The trust provides financial assistance to disabled parents to support their children.




AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON “WELLBEING OUT OF WASTE”.

We thank the organisers of WOW Initiative for conducting the awareness programme on “Wellbeing Out of Waste”. Ms. Anuvartha, Programme Co-ordinator of WOW presented facts about Waste management among the students of NSS wing of our College on 11.01.2022. The Students and Staff appreciated the inputs shared and have also been motivated to involve in proper segregation of waste into Dry waste, Wet waste and Sanitary waste. We also thank Mrs. Fahmida of BBMP, Bangalore for introducing our College to the WOW programme.




CYBER CRIME AWARENESS

We place on record our gratitude to the Department of Police, Karnataka for organising a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme for our students of I PUC / II PUC. The officials from the Cyber Crime Department (West Division) spoke on how the youth should be vigilant on Social media. He also advised them not to share personal information through media especially regarding Loan, Lottery, Job offers.




NATIONAL YOUTH DAY

National Youth Day – 2022 at Carmel Pre-University college –AN0355 was celebrated on 12.01.2022. The students were spoken to about the importance of youth and role of youth in Nation building by the Principal. Mrs. Vidya Karunambika, Lecturer, Department of English spoke about the great Philosopher and Youth Icon Swami Vivekananda’s life. The theme of the day was “It is all in the Mind”. Students participated in the Impromptu speech event on various topics related to the above theme.




CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS GALORE

On 23.12.2021 at Carmel, Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the King and also a celebration of talent. The Christmas feast had two rounds the talent round and antakshari round. Prizes were given away to the Best Dressed Team, Best Decorated Table, Most Talented Team, Most Entertaining Team and for Antakshari.Carmel staff both of the school and PU College dressed in festive attire and put their best foot forward to win a beehive of prizes. Mrs. Santa Claus made a grand entry and took everyone by surprise. She showered good wishes for the season and fantastic gifts for everyone.




SURYA NAMASKAR SALUTATION TO THE SUN GOD

The 75 lakhs Surya Namaskar project is a tribute to 75 years of India’s Independence, “ Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. Indians are coming together to celebrate the health benefits of yogasan from 1st Jan to 7th Feb. under the directive of the Govt of Karnataka, Carmel PU College has been training its students on the 12 powerful yoga poses. Our students participated in the demonstration programme and were awarded a certificate of participation. These asanas, in addition to providing various health benefits to the body and mind can be incorporate as a daily exercise regime.




COVID VACCINATION DRIVE AT CARMEL

On 3.1.2022 with the Government of India, extending the COVID Vaccination to teenagers between 15 and 18 years , Carmel geared up to vaccinate its student in association with BBMP. Mr.Suresh Kumar, MLA, Rajaji Nagar Constituency, Govt of Karnataka inaugurated the drive and supervised the inoculation programme. The camp which started early in the day extended till the evening. Around 500 Carmelites received their first dose of Covaxin.




CARMEL PLAYS HOST

The District Level Volleyball Tournament for Girls was held on 25thNovember at Carmel PU College. Mr. Sriram, Deputy Director, DPUE, Bangalore North presided over the inaugural ceremony and declared the tournament open. 18 teams participated very enthusiastically. Mount Carmel PU College clinched the title while MES Kishore Kendra were declared runners.


Mrs.Sandhya Menezes, Principal, Carmel PU College presided over the valedictory ceremony and gave away the prizes.




NATIONAL CONSTITUTION DAY

National Constitution Day was observed in our college on 24th Nov 2021. Mrs.Sujatha Sridhar, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry addressed the students on the various features of the Indian Constitution and highlighted why the day was celebrated. The NSS wing also conducted ‘Question of the Month’ on the occasion, on the topic ‘Should Law be enforced on Children abandoning their parents during their Old Age’, Students actively participated and aired their views.


The Administrator of the college, Principal, faculty members and students took the pledge on 26th November, 2021 to uphold the constitution at all times.




Teens Day

The campus was indeed vibrant on November 14th which is usually celebrated as Teens Day at Carmel. Multifarious activities were planned by the different departments during the extended lunch break. Students had loads of fun in participating in cultural, literary and sporting activities. Teachers had also organised a special assembly on the occasion. The icing on the cake was the various dress codes such as South Indian attire, North Indian attire and formal wear. Elegantly attired girls and fashionably dressed up boys pepped up the campus through the week.




SPREADING DEEPAVALI CHEER

The volunteers of Eco Club spread the festive spirit of Deepavali, in the neighborhood by distributing earthen ware diyas. They also urged them to refrain from bursting too many crackers as it would pollute the atmosphere and cause many health hazards.




KANNADA RAJYOTSAVA

Karnataka Foundation Day was celebrated with great pomp and pride at Carmel. Music, dance and fiery speeches marked the day. Students pledged to speak only in Kannada and also to teach others to speak in the beautiful classical language. Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal stressed that though everyone is filled with pride in being called a Kannadiga , Kannadigas are hesitant to speak their language. She urged the students to speak in Kannada everyday and everywhere. Mrs. Asha, Lecturer in Computer Science traced the glory Kannada writers added to Kannada Literature and the contribution of Kannadigas to the nation and the world




LAKSHA KANTAGALALI GEETHAGAYANA

On the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava government asked educational Institutions to conduct Geetha Gayana programme at 11am . On 29th Nov 2021 the college organised the programme , few representatives from each class led the singing group. All the students, teaching staff and non teaching staff participated. Three songs were sung. The songs were Nithyotsava written by Nisar Ahmed, Barisu Kannada dindimava written by Kuvempu, Huttidare kannada nadali huttabeku written by Hamsalekha.




RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS

National Unity Day is celebrated annually on October 31st to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Patel a great Indian freedom fighter is fondly remembered for his monumental efforts in uniting India. On his birth anniversary Carmelites took a pledge to strive to maintain the unity and the integrity of the nation.




AZAD KI AMRAT MAHATSAV’S CLEAN INDIA PROGRAMME

Clean India Programme was launched on October 1st as a nationwide initiative to clean up the streets, roads, cities and rural areas. At Carmel NSS volunteers along with the teachers took up the task of collecting single use plastic items from in and around the campus. Thereafter they also cleaned the surrounding areas




Investiture Ceremony

Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader.
They set out to make a difference.

The Students' Council for the academic year 2021-22 donned the mantle of leadership at a simple but a solemn ceremony on 13th October. The present set of leaders for the first time in Carmel History were not selected but nominated. Their prowess in the different fields was taken into consideration before they were entrusted with the great responsibility. Mr.Roshan Menezes , the Administrator presided over the ceremony. He congratulated the students and reminded that though they were chosen by the Principal and the teachers they had to rise up to the challenge entrusted to them. He urged the leaders to keep the welfare of the students in mind before they took any decision.


Ms.Eva Saglani, ex-Carmelite and a former President of Students’ Council was the Chief Guest of the occasion. She pinned the badges and handed over the sashes and congratulated the council.

Freshers’ Talent Hunt

Talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not.

Well, that is not true at Carmel. Opportunities are galore at Carmel keeping in mind the abundant talent of the Carmelites. The Fresher’s Talent Hunt was held in the first week of October. Competitions were held under three categories viz Art, Literary and Culturals.


Covid protocols and restrictions necessitated the talent hunt to choose the virtual platform, but this did not dampen the spirit of the students. They participated with renewed vigor.


On 13th of October, the winners were felicitated by Ms.Eva Saglani, Ex Carmalite and Former President, Students’ Council. She recalled her college days and how various activities conducted in the college helped to shape her, for the future


The prize winners put up a scintillating performance of music, dance and mimicry. The Fresher’s Talent Cup was won by class I A and the Malhar Trophy was awarded to class II C for maximum participation and for winning a slew of prizes.

GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATION


Gandhi Jayanti is observed on October 2nd every year to honour Mahatma Gandhi for his valuable contributions to freedom struggle. The Carmelites celebrated 152nd Birth anniversary on October 2nd by organizing a special programme. Bhajans were sung in commemoration followed by a trivia on Gandhiji.

On 1st October 2021 as a tribute to the Gandhi , the college launched cleanliness campaign in association with NSS wing of college.


Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes spoke to students about the importance of cleanliness and administered the pledge, Students cleaned the surroundings of college campus and also created an awareness among the neighbours and the general public about health and hygiene.




CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS


Carmel PU College has tied up with Mindler, a New Delhi based edutech company to provide guidance on career choices. The programme which is to be spread over the academic year kicked off with an introductory session on 15/9/21 by Mr. Parakshith , Co-founder of Mindler. He impressed upon the students the need to think beyond the traditional career choices. The programme would provide career assessment, career guidance and career counselling to both I PUC and II PUC students online.




Gurupranam on Teacher’s Day


II PUC students organised a potpourri of entertainment for their Gurus on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. Keeping in mind Covid protocols the students recorded the programme and shared the video with their gurus and friends. The highlight of the programme was the Fashion Walk of the teachers with the students. It provided an opportunity for them to bond with each other.

AZAD KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV


On Aug 15, 2021, as the country celebrates ‘Azad KaAmritMahotsav’ marking the 75th Independence Day, at Carmel, Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator hoisted the tricolor flag and elaborated on the sacrifice of great leaders and freedom fighters and the social responsibility that every young Indian owed to work collectively for a progressive India.


Mrs Sandhya Menezes advised the students to protect the freedom in the right way and contribute to the National Development. Mrs. Ramaa Kulkarni rendered a patriotic song. The staff and the students sang National Anthem. NSS Volunteers planted herbal saplings to help improve the green cover in the college premises.




LAUNCH OF PARENT EYE APP


ParentEye is a platform to streamline the communication between teachers and parents. On 23 July, 2021, the teaching faculty attended the session on using the ParentEye app which enables them to quickly find the performance report of any student, send note to the parent, etc. On 31st July 2021, the parents were given training on using the app. The app helps to get a clear view about their wards performance in scholastic and non scholastic area.


ParentEyediary open up a two-way communication channel to reduce the communication gap between parent and teacher.




FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL


The Solemn Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated on July 16th 2021. The object was Thanksgiving to Mary, the Patroness of the Carmelite Order, for the benefits she has accorded through the years. The celebrations began with the Prayer service. Rev. Fr. Regan D’ Souza, the main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebrations shared his profound insights into the qualities of an educator as they play a catalytic role in the holistic development of every student, hence teachers should have a strong work ethics.


Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator,acknowledged the hard work of all the members of the Carmel family during the times of pandemic. Mrs. Dorothy Menezes, the Director of Academics, Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal, Carmel PU College, Mrs. Florence D’ Souza, Principal, Carmel High School graced the occasion.




ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR II PUC


Orientation Programme was held online on 24th June 2021 which marked the beginning of this academic year for II PU Science and Commerce students. The principal welcomed the students and gave guidelines on how to meet the challenges in Academics and also advised them to engage themselves in learning constantly which would result in consistent performance in tests and exams. Students were also told to be an active member by participating in various events conducted during the year. Later the teaching faculty were introduced to the students.


On 25th June 2021, through virtual platform all sections of Science and Commerce stream had an orientation class by the class mentors. The detailed academic program structure and evaluation criteria was explained by the subject teachers. Students were informed about the Online classes that would begin from 28th June through Google Classroom.




EMPOWERING TEACHERS TO IMPLEMENT TECHNOLOGY


The need for professional development extends beyond simply helping teachers become familiar with the basics of the technology. It requires an ongoing program to support, encourage and inspire teachers to explore the possibilities of technology. On 22nd June 2021, the faculty underwent hands-on-training to integrate technology into their lessons and to provide visual aids to complement teaching so as to achieve effective learning and stimulate students to interact and involve in discussions. The faculty planned academic work accordingly.




MALHAR – 2021


Malhar, a Shower of Talents, an intraclass Cultural Event was held online for II PU students in the second week of June. To nurture one’s creativity, the events included Front Page Design, Web Page Designing, Digital Hangman, 60 secs to Fame, Carmel Master Chef. Geethartha and General Quiz were also part of the event. Though it was an online event, lots of talent was unearthed. Eventually, II PU ‘C’ section emerged winners bagging maximum prizes.




COVID-19 VACCINATION CAMP


On 30th June 2021, Carmel College organized a Vaccination Camp in association with BBMP Doctors at the campus premises for the Teaching and Non-teaching staff and for students above 18. Around 45 of them got their first jab.




WEBINAR ON CAREER GUIDANCE


The college hosted a WEBINAR for Commerce students to focus on providing expert career guidance. Mr. Ravindra, Asst. Professor, Ramaiaha Institute of Management Studies gave a concise and insightful information on courses that students can consider. The speaker also briefed on specialized courses, conventional and professional courses, other Bachelor programmes and also competitive exams.




DISTRICT LEVEL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT-2021


Department of Pre University Education, Bangalore North had organized District level Volleyball Tournament on 2nd and 3rd March 2021 at Carmel Sports Arena.


Carmel had the privilege to host the tournament. Mr. Sriram G.K, Deputy Director, PUE, Bangalore North was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator, Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes and Mr. G. Shridhar, Sports coordinator, Bangalore North were present during the inaugural function. The excitement of the students was high. There was some excellent volleyball on show.

Career Guidance programme was held in two sessions in the first week of March for the students of Science and Commerce stream. Mr Manjunath, Career Counsellor, conducted the session that helped students to organize their thoughts and ideas on career related decisions which boost the morale and confidence and give new directions to them.




ELECTORAL VOTERS CLUB


As instructed by the PU Board, various activities were planned from Electoral Voters club. To test the students comprehensive skills and enhance their creativity a list of competitions were conducted at college level on 25th, January 2021, National Voters’ Day. Nearly 8 students were selected at the college level and have participated at the zonal level.


Manasa K C and Yashica V have showed their mastery by winning I Prize in Essay Writing and II Prize in Quiz respectively at the zonal level and have achieved the credit of participating at the District Level.




REPUBLIC DAY


One Nation, One Vision, One Identity


On 26th January 2021, a short ceremony was held to mark 72nd Republic Day Celebrations. Mr Roshan Menezes, Administrator accompanied by Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes unfurled the tricolor flag.


Mr Roshan Menezes in his keynote address said, Republic Day inspires us to remain devoted to the constitution. He also highlighted the landmark achievements and the socio-economic progress that India has made Since Independence. Mrs Sandhya Menezes spoke on Kalaeidoscopic variety and rich cultural heritage of our Nation. Mrs Ramaa Kulharni, Dept of Hindi presented a song in dedication to corona warriors and the soldiers of our Country. Mrs Shylaja, Dept of English conducted a Quiz on Indian Constitution.The Celebrations concluded with distribution of sweets




NATIONAL VOTERS DAY


On 25th, January 2021, National Voters’ Day was celebrated to raise awareness among youth to participate in electoral process, by taking a pledge- “ We, the citizens of India, having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement”.




FELICITATION CEREMONY


The Toppers of I PU and II PU of the academic year 2019-2020 were felicitated by the Management at a very simple Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony. On this occasion the prize winners of Ethnic Day and Carmel Fitness Week also received their prizes and certificates.




NATIONAL YOUTH DAY


The NSS UNIT of the College celebrated Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary by conducting a poster making competition. The students were asked to picturize Swami’s PEARLS OF WISDOM ( Slogans) in the form of a poster on 12th January. Students actively took part.




CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS


As a part of Christmas celebration on 24.12.2020, a virtual Christmas wishes were conveyed to Carmel students along with a video presentation on 'JESUS BIRTH'.


Christmas was celebrated in the campus on 23rd December 2020. The management hosted the feast. It was a fun filled evening for both teaching and non teaching staff.

CARMEL FITNESS WEEK


At Carmel, Sports Day events were conducted online under new tag ‘Fitness week at Carmel‘. Students were encouraged to participate in 6 events like Pushups, Situps, Suryanamaskhara, Balancing on one foot, 800m running race and 2km walking. Many students took part with enthusiasm.

ETHNIC DAY


Ethnic Day, the most happening event at Carmel was streamed online this year. The event was spread over three rounds which tested the participants in different fields like fashion, Talent and Intelligence.


The panel of judges included Ms Harriette Rebello, an alumni of Mount Carmel College, currently working as a Sr. Manager at Cargil Inc. and Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator.


96 students took part in the first round of Fashion Walk, where students walked in their dazzling traditional outfit. Among these, 40 students were selected to the second round. Here students were given an opportunity to exhibit their talent. Later 10 girls and 4 boys were shortlisted for the final round i.e, Expression round. Here students have to answer questions posed by the judges. At the end of the third round Virushtikka of 2C was Crowned Ms Carmel and Saharsh Patel of 2B was crowned Mr. Carmel.




FIT INDIA PRABHATPHERI – 2020


NSS Unit organized WALKATHON as part of Fit India Movement on 1.12.2020 and 2.12.2020 to promote a fit and healthy India and to raise awareness about the importance of physical fitness. Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, flagged off the event. Ministry of youth Affairs and Sports issued a Certificate of Recognition to Carmel NSS Unit for successfully organizing the event.




WOMEN’S DAY


To highlight the role of Women in Indian Society and in the development of nation building, 24th November was observed as Women’s Day. An event was organized for the teaching faculty in line with the theme of the day. The faculty presented the PPT on the topic : ‘ The Women who has Inspired you’.




PARISARA RAKSHANA DIVAS


November 25th 2020 marked the final day of National Integration week. The day was observed as “ Conservation Day” to create awareness among the general public in view of protecting and preserving the environment. Students made paper carry bags and distributed to the street vendors and shopkeepers to avoid using plastic carry bags.




PARENT TEACHER INTERACTION


From Nov 26th to Nov 28th , Parent teacher interaction for I PU was organised to get feedback from students about online classes and share their academic performance with the parents. Also parents were invited in different slots in order to maintain social distancing.




SAMVIDHAN DIVAS – 2020

Constitution Day was celebrated on 26th November 2020 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The day is chosen to spread the importance of the constitution and to promote constitutional values among citizens. Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes addressed the staff briefly about Dr B R Ambedkar who gave shape to the democratic framework of India. Then Principal and Staff took a pledge to reaffirm the commitment towards democratic ideals and values enshrined in the constitution.




NATIONAL INTEGRATION DAY


National Integration Day was observed on November 19, 2020 and as part of the celebration, a pledge taking ceremony was held. Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes administered the pledge to the staff members present for settlement of all differences and disputes relating to religion, language, region or other political or economic grievances by peaceful and constitutional means.

On November 14th Teens Day was celebrated in a unique way. Through online platform a video was shared with the students which was dedicated to them. Principal and the Staff prayed for our dear Carmelites. Thoughts and values were presented through the video for the students to make their life joyful and bright.




KANNADA RAJYOTSAVA


Kannada Rajyotsava Celebrations was held on November 2, 2020. The faculty members of the Kannada department unfurled the State flag. Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes, in her address said that we need to remember the golden heritage of our State and feel proud to be a part of Karnataka. Mr. Venkatesh, Dept of Biology spoke on the relevance of the day. Then the State Anthem- “Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Thanu Jathe” and bhavageethe ‘Hachchevu Kannadada deepa’ was sung by the staff members.




FRESHERS TALENT HUNT_2020


Freshers Talent Hunt, the first event of the year for the I PU Students was well planned with a great deal of excitement to encourage them to discover and carve out their hidden talents. Various events categorized under three segments Art, Literary and Cultural were Nail Art, Tattoo Design, Bill Board Designing, Digital Poster making, Picture composition, Poetry Illustration, Paryayapada Lekhanam, Voice of Carmel, Dancing Stars, Fashion Walk and Unique Talent. The event witnessed a high turnout. Finally class ’IC won the event with maximum participation and winning points.

GANDHI JAYANTHI CELEBRATION


To mark the 151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October 2020, in the backdrop of the pandemic, the celebrations was held online so that staff and students would partake in the celebrations. Gandhiji’s favourite Bhajan ‘VAISHNAV JAN TO’ was rendered by Niharika of II PUC. The students of II PUC shared on Gandhiji’s principles, his sense of humour and relevance of his teachings in today’s world.




TEACHERS' DAY

This year Teachers’ Day was celebrated in a different pattern. The various online events organized by Management were Rangoli, Quiz and Fashion walk with family members. They enthusiastically took part and the winners were awarded with the prizes. Teachers took this opportunity to showcase their talents amidst their busy schedule of conducting online classes.





ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR I PU

The Orientation programme for the I PU Students was shared through virtual platform on 2nd September 2020. Principal Mrs Sandhya Menezes welcomed the newly admitted students to the Carmel family. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Administrator gave an overview of the complete realm of campus life, from academics to co- curricular activities. He explained about the various opportunities provided for the students to showcase their talent. He also enumerated the rules and regulations of the college to be followed by the students. Later students were taken on a VIRTUAL TOUR around the campus.


Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes gave guidelines to the students to meet the challenges of academics and also briefed on the Tests and Examination structure that would help in self assessment of students learning. She advised students to imbibe a sense of commitment and responsibility for sustainable development. Students were also introduced to the members of the Teaching faculty of various departments.




SADBHAVANA DIWAS

To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of our Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Sadbhavana Diwas was observed on 20 August, 2020. The theme of the day was to promote National Integration, Love and peace among Indians of all religions. Principal and the staff took a pledge that they would work for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, religion or language.





INDEPENDENCE DAY

74th Independence Day was celebrated on August 15, 2020 to commemorate India’s Independence. Owing to the ongoing Covid pandemic, the grand celebrations were scaled down this year to adhere to social distancing norms. Principal Mrs. Sandhya Menezes unfurled the tricolour flag and saluted the Nation in remembrance of the sacrifice of our great leaders and freedom fighters. Staff members were present.





MALHAR 2020

Malhar -‘A Shower of Talents’, an intraclass cultural event was conducted online for II PUC Students from 27th July to 30th July 2020. The event provided a platform for the students to show case their talent in Dance, Music, Nail Art, Tattoo Designing, Mask Designing, Storytelling, Spunky Ads, Voice over PPT, Fashion and Unique Talent. Class II ‘C’ emerged as winners by getting maximum number of prizes.

Though it was an online event, our students did not fall short in any ways. There was maximum participation in all the events.

INTERACTIVE CLASSES

From the 1st week of August interactive classes on Google meet was conducted for II PU students. During these classes students were given an opportunity to clarify their doubts.




FIRST ROUND ONLINE TEST

First Round Test was conducted from 20 July to 25th July to assess and evaluate students learning. The Test was conducted on Google meet. On July 31st, the results of the test was announced and the top 5 scores in each class was awarded an e-certificate commendation.

CARMEL ACTIVITY CENTER- ONLINE EVENTS

To break the monotony and to facilitate students all round development, multiple co-curricular activities were conducted virtually by various departments. Activities included Poetry Illustration, Picture Composition, Digital Collage, Digital Treasure Hunt, Video Presentation, Bill Board Designing, Digital Poster Designing, Paryayapada Lekhanam and General Ability Test. The students enthusiastically participated in the activities.




LAUNCHING OF CARMEL LFH ONLINE CLASSES

May 15th 2020 – The day marked the launching of online classes for II PUC amidst the lockdown. There was an orientation programme for the students.

Mr Roshan Menezes, the Administrator advised students to take an active role in their learning and also to remain consistent in their learning process. From May 18th Online classes on Google classroom for II PUC started as per the scheduled timetable.




ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME FOR TEACHERS- ONLINE TEACHING

Pre-University Education is an important milestone in a student’s life and in order to ensure continuity of learning process and to keep students engaged during this pandemic situation, we began the process of teaching and learning using Google classroom.

Training Session 1 :- Carmel LFH Series

On May 5th 2020, the Tech team underwent a training to create Google Classroom and to guide and instruct students to join Google Classroom.


Training Session 2 :

The teachers handling different subjects were introduced to the new system of learning. On May 7th, a training programme for effective recording of online class room teaching was held. The faculty were engaged in planning the academic work. It was scheduled to have video recorded classes of three subjects everyday followed by quiz and assignments.
