YOUTH FESTIVAL REPORT

Kanchan H. K. and Nikki of I PUC 'C' section attended State Level Youth Festival – 2023 organized by Dept. of PU Board, NSS and Dept. of Youth Empowerment & Sports, Govt. of Karnataka held at Gandhi Bhavan for 5 days from 6.2.2023 to 10.2.2023. Life skills and cultural programmes were conducted. Kanchan H.K. won 2nd prize in Dance and Drawing. Nikki won 1st prize in Skit and 2nd prize in Drawing.




NATIONAL VOTER'S DAY

National Voter's Day was celebrated on January 25th, by taking a pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of the country. Our students also participated in the competitions conducted by the PU Board on the occasion. Aniketh of II C secured III Prize in the Poster Designing Competition at District Level also Aniketh of II C got I Prize and Ranjan V of II E got II Prize at Taluk level.




ANNUAL DAY

Carmel PU College, Basaveshwarnagar, celebrated its 20th Annual Day on January 10th 2023. The guests offered Pushpanjali to the Founder Secretary of the Institution Late. Mr. Alexander Menezes. The dignitaries present were Chief guest of the day, Prof. Gururaj Sreedhara, Principal Widia Poorna Prajna PU College, Bangalore. Guest of Honour, Mr. Robinson D’souza, Former State Secretary, Department of Law, Government of Karnataka, the Principal of Carmel School Mr. Shaji Antony, with the Administrator of the college Mr. Roshan Menezes and the Principal of the college Mrs. Sandhya Menezes.




CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

Carmelites sportively celebrated Christmas, the festival of hope, love and sharing by setting a crib. The college came alive with the singing of some popular carols. At Carmel, Christmas was celebrated with fun filled games and enthusiasm. The management had organised a gala celebration on 22nd December for the staff members at Sports Arena. At the end of the day a sumptuous snacks were served and gifts were distributed to all the teaching and non teaching staff.




ETHNIC DAY

Ethnic Day was held on 2nd December 2022 where students dressed splendidly in Indian wear to celebrate Carmel’s biggest event. The day was filled with students swirling around in their jaw dropping ensembles showcasing their culture and connecting with their traditions. Three rounds- the ramp walk, talent round and the question round formed the scope for judgment.


The students portrayed confidence with their sizzling walk during the first round. The last round was filled with quirky questions from the judges side and witty answers from the student side. This year Mr. Carmel Sanjiv B.R. from ll E stood for empowering cause ‘transgender equality’. He was brave enough to have the courage to speak his mind. Ms. Harshitha V of ll A was adjudged as Ms. Carmel.

FIRST AID TRAINING

On 30th Nov 2022, teaching and non teaching staff underwent a training on First aid to handle basic medical emergency.




SPORTS DAY

On 28th November 2022, the 19th Annual Athletic Meet was held at Balagangadharanadha stadium Vijayanagar, Bangalore. Dr. Nagaraju M, Best Principal Awardee and retired Secretary, AMS PU College honoured the occasion. He encouraged the students to participate more in sports activities to keep them fit as well as it helps in good concentration and results in scoring excellent marks. The students participated enthusiastically in various field and track events. The overall championship was bagged by II D. The energetic participation of the students was a spectacular sight for the spectators.




NATIONAL CONSTITUTIONAL DAY

Constitutional Day is celebrated on 26th November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. The preamble of the constitution was read to the students by Ms. Sandhya Menezes. She led the gathering to take the oath.




NATIONAL INTEGRATION DAY

National Integration Day is observed every year on 19 November to mark the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of India. The management, teachers and students took an oath for promoting peace, unity and integration between all the different segments of society living in India. Ms. Sasikala, Lecturer Department of Physics led the oath taking.




FOOD FEST

Food is for sharing and socializing. Food fest was organized on November 16 on our campus by second PU students and teachers. Students and teachers contributed generously.




TEENS DAY

On the occasion of Childrens'Day the teachers of Carmel High school and Carmel PU College put up scintillating dance performances. Mr Madhu Chopra, Asia's strongest man demonstrated his strength and capacity for endurance. He motivated the students to eat healthy and stay healthy.




KANNADA RAJYOTSAVA

Karnataka Foundation Day was celebrated with great pride at Carmel. Music, drama and fiery speeches marked the day. Students pledged to speak only in Kannada and to teach others to speak in the beautiful classical language. Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, Principal in her speech, explained the State anthem beautifully and stressed that though everyone is filled with pride in being called a Kannadiga , Kannadigas are hesitant to speak their language. She urged the students to speak in Kannada everyday and everywhere. Mrs. Sashikala, Lecturer in Physics traced the glory of Kannada language and shared the pride to live in Karnataka.




RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS

National Unity Day was celebrated under the guidance of Sub. Pavittar Singh and Mrs.Roopashree K of Carmel High School on October 31st to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Patel a great Indian freedom fighter who is fondly remembered for his monumental efforts in uniting India. Unity Run was organised on the occasion of Rashtriya Etka Diwas. 27 cadets took pledge and participated in the run along with holding posters and shouting slogans to create awareness about unity among the public. They were accompanied by NSS volunteers.




KOTI KANTA GAYANA

On the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava government instructed educational institutions to conduct Geetha Gayana programme at 11am across the state . On 28th Oct 2022, the college organised the programme , representatives from each class led the singing group. All the students, teaching staff and non teaching staff participated. Six songs were sung. Some of the songs were Nithyotsava written by Nisar Ahmed, Barisu Kannada dindimava written by Kuvempu, Huttidarekannadanadalihuttabeku written by Hamsalekha.




WORLD FOOD DAY

WORLD FOOD WAS OBSERVED AT CARMEL ON 16.10.2022 TO DISCOURAGE THE WASTAGE OF FOOD




NSS SPECIAL CAMP

NSS SPECIAL CAMP was conducted in Melina Joganahalli S.S Ghati Dodballapur Taluk from 6.10.2022 to 12.10.2022. 50 students along with the Programme Officer attended the camp. The main objective of the camp was:


• To create awareness on Waste segregation and Management through Street play.


• Personality Development programmes to build confidence


• Beautification of the camp premises of by planting saplings and cleaning


• Awareness on fitness and healthy life style through Yoga


• Conducting a Free Eye camp in the village


Special talks on making of leaders, fitness through yoga and leading a healthy life style was conducted for students by Resource Persons. Students actively took part in cleaning premises and assisting in the free eye camp conducted by Lion’s Club, planting saplings and performing yoga during the camp.




WEBINAR ON CAREER PLANNING AND PROFILE BUILDING FOR COLLEGE ADMISSIONS

On September 24th a webinar by Mr. Abhishek Gulati for I PUC students as part of Mindler Career Webinar was conducted by Mindler for IPUC Students. Mr. Abhishek Gulati addressed the students on creating ideas to build skills for the future .




DISTRICT LEVEL TENNIS VOLLEY BALL TOURNAMENT

Carmel PU College organised Tennis Volley Ball Tournament on 09/09/22. DDPU of Bangalore North district, Sri G K Sriram was the Chief Guest for the event. The following Colleges were declared as winners.

PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

On September 22nd Mr. Mallikarjun from Deccan Herald addressed II PU Students, how to create a positive mind set.




NCC ENROLMENT DAY

NCC Troops under 39KAR BN NCC , Bangalore organised NCC Enrolment Day on 20th September at Carmel New Playground. Colonel S K Singh presided over the programme and shared with the students information about NCC. Mr. Roshan Menezes, the Administrator, urged the students to actively involve themselves in the unit.




NCC ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

On September 14th Parents and Students of I PUC were invited to the Orientation programme to know about NCC and its benefits. Major Mr. Rajesh Nandalike NCC Officer of NITTE University and Dr. Rekha Sinha, NCC Officer of Jain University were keen speakers.




TEACHERS' DAY

Student Council organized a bash for the teachers on teacher’s day. Teachers were divided into four groups and had fun. Teachers took part in different activities enthusiastically in different events like fashion walk, stay tuned and stay conscious, anthakyashari etc.




BLOOD DONATION CAMP

Carmel PU College in association with Lions Club of Bengaluru, Royal Palace and Lions Club of Bengaluru, Gokula had organized Blood Donation camp on August 25th in sports Arena Basement. Thanks to the members of Community Service for their voluntary work in spreading awareness on donating blood. 106 units of blood were collected. The NSS volunteers actively worked in bringing donors.




SADBHAVANA DIWAS

Sadbhavana Diwas was observed on 20 August, 2022 to promote National Integration among Indians of all religions. Principal, staff and students took a pledge that they would work for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, religion and language.




AZADI KI AMRUT MAHOTSAV

The tiranga was unfurled by Shri Lukose Vallatharai, IAS (Retd) Govt of Karnataka.Dr.Saalamadara Thimmakka , Environmentalist and Padmasree Awardee, the Guest of Honor, was felicitated on the occasion. Students of Carmel High school and Carmel PU College came together for A mesmerizing Musical Presentation on "India's Glorious Past to Great Future".

AZADI KI AMRUT MAHOTSAV



VANAMAHOTSAVA

To mark the 75th Independence Day the Eco-club members took the pleasure of planting 75 sapplings in the college campus. The increase greenery that has spread now add on beauty to campus.




PLOGATHON

Carmel PU Staff members along with the NSS and Eco-Club volunteers had organized plogging, on 2nd August, 2022. The drive led the members raise their concerns about garbage and cleanliness issues and improve the civic body’s standing in Swachh Survekshan and eliminate single use plastic.




ITC's WOW (Wellbeing our of waste)

ITC's WOW is an on-going program which is conducted every month is the College Campus. It is a flagship initiative that seeks to address the crucial issue of post – consumed waste management. Carmel PU College joins in hands with ITC’s WOW and ensures that proper segregation and recycling of waste in a manner that protects and restores environment.




HAR GHAR THIRANGA

As a token of the patriotism and loyalty towards the nation, Carmel PU joined in the campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by distributing the National Flags to the staff members to hoist the flag at their respective house. The NSS volunteers visited the neighbouring houses and distributed our National Flags to them and encouraged them to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India's Independence.




MASTERMIND PROGRAMME BY DECCAN HERALD

On July 14th , Mr. Deepak Chauhan Programme head of Mastermind briefed on Preparations on Competitive exams using Mastermind News Paper for II PU Students .




AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON HEALTH AND HYGIENE

On July 15th, Doctors from Unani Homeopathy College, Dr Vimala and Shahida spoke to girls students on "Maintaining good Health and practicing Hygiene lifestyle".




POLICE TALK "TRAFFIC RULES"

Police talk was organized by Carmel Management for the students on 12th July 2022.Mr. Kalmish, traffic police from Basaveshwaranagar Police Station was invited to create awareness about the current traffic rules and regulation that is announcement by the traffic police department. The session updated the students about these responsibilities and the penalty they are liable for not abiding the traffic rules.




MINDLER – Career Guidance Programme

Carmel PU College has tied up with MINDLER, the most advanced website for Online Career assessments which provides better insights on a broad spectrum of career opportunities available for students. The Orientation session was held for I PU Students by Mr. Parikshith, Co-Founder of Mindler. Webinar sessions will be held through the year at regular intervals. Students can avail career guidance and career counselling online.




MALHAR – A Shower of Talents

Malhar "Shower Of Talents 2022" an inter-class event was celebrated on 27th July, 2022. The chief guest for the event was an Alumnus Mr. H C Kishore Chandra, Artist, Actor, musician and Lyricist. The other dignitaries who embraced the occasion were Administrator, Mr. Roshan Menezes, Principal, Mrs. Sandhya Menezes and Carmel High School Principal, Mr. Shajid Antony.


The day commenced on an auspicious note with an invocation song and lighting of lamp. Mr. Kishore addressed the gathering showering compliments on our college which provides holistic environment for overall development of students. This year the theme was "AMAZING INDIA".


Exciting events were organized to promote and encourage students t o develop their talents in Art, Literary and Cultural fields. Declamation,Science Quiz(Digital), Rangoli, Mehendi, Pencil Sketching, Product Launch, Picture composition, Movie Quiz, Fireless Cooking, 20 questions, Powerpoint Presentation, Spell Bee, Shloka Picturization, Duet Singing, Unique Talent, Cultural Extravaganza, Malhar Reels and Treasure Hunt were some of the competitions that were held.




FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of Carmel Education Society was celebrated on 16th July, 2022 at Silver Oak Resort near Doddaballapura. On this day, we recall Mother Mary's motherly patronage, guidance and her loving care and protection.


Fr. Joseph Royan C.Ss.R Redemptorist, Holy Ghost Church, his Grace was the main celebrant at the Eucharistic celebrations. The programme started with the seeking of the almighty's blessing through a prayer service followed by sharing the significance of the day. Mr. Roshan Menezes, Secretary, Carmel Education Society welcomed the gathering and thanked the gathering for their presence and participation in the celebrations. Mrs. Sandhya Menezes, the Principal rendered the prayer. Mr. Shajid Antony, Principal of Carmel High School, teaching and non teaching faculty of Carmel High School and Carmel PU College were also present.


The day ended on a festive note as all the Carmelites broke into dance and played various games in rejoice the auspicious day.




MEDICAL CHECK UP CAMP

On July 4th 2022, a camp for medical check up was conducted by Health Basics company for all the Students and Staff of Carmel PU College.




International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day was observed on June,2022. Students performed various yoga asanas demonstrated by Vibha Swamy of II A. Mrs. Ramaa Kulkarni, Dept of Hindi spoke on the occasion. She highlighted how Yoga was the most inexpensive ancient practice that could be performed anywhere and needed no expensive gear or equipment. Mrs.Sandhya Menezes, Principal shared with the students the various protocols to be followed while performing the asanas. She urged he students to carry it forward on a daily basis as it would improve their concentration and overall health.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY




POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

The academic year 2022-23 in Carmel was declared as year of fitness. Three values Honesty, Respect and Punctuality were chosen as special values to be imbibed by all Carmelites in their life. A poster making contest was floated on 17/6/2022. The posters created by students were displayed.




Parents' Orientation

The parents of the I PUC attended an orientation programme on the 11th June, 2022. Mr.Roshan Menezes urged the parents to encourage their children in the paths chosen by them. Co-curricular, extra curricular, and sports activities were equally important in the holistic development of the students, so parents should teach their children how to balance the two. It was followed by a briefing on Parents’ Eye App by Mr. Nagaraju. The app would be an effective tool of communication between the teachers, parents and the students. It would also help them to keep a track on their ward’s academic performance.




TALLY PRIME PROGRAMME

II PU Commerce students were introduced to Tally Prime Programme by Mr. Srikanth and Mr. Saravanan from Havana Yukta Solutions . 30 Students among them enrolled for the same. The students attended training programme of 25 sessions ( 50 hours ) and took up the examination. 27 of them got A+ and three of them got A Certificates.




Students' Orientation

Orientation programmes were organized on the 6th and 8th of June 2022 for the I and II PUC students respectively. Mr.Roshan Menezes, the administrator of the institution addressed the students. He emphasized “Learning to learn is fun” so to make use of the time at college to learn and at the same time to enthusiastically participate in all the activities of the college. Mrs. Mrs.Sandhya Menezes, the Principal prepared them for the college life by briefing them about the college and the code of conduct to be followed. The session helped the students to allay their fears as they were entering a new whole world.




Environment Day

World Environment Day was celebrated on 6th June , 2022. The day’s celebration started with the watering of a plant. Ms.Pranavi of II B spoke on the importance of the environment. A quiz was also conducted on the occasion. The prize winners were suitably rewarded with medicinal plants with the intention of benefitting from them and increasing the green cover.




Carmel Run 2022

The resurgence of normal life has instilled in people all across the world to re-emphasize on fitness and good health. Carmel Education Society also saw the dire need and has set fitness and good health as its primary goals for this academic year. Keeping in the mind their primary objective ‘Carmel Run’ was organized on 22nd May at Balagangadharanath Swamiji Stadium, Vijay Nagar, Bangalore.


The run spread across three categories 10k, 5k and 3k drew an overwhelming response. Over 500 amateurs along with elite professionals participated. The event was flagged off by Mr.Somanna.V Former Minister, Govt. of Karnataka , Mr.Suresh Kumar MLA Rajaji Nagar, and Mr.Deviaha ,Olympian and Arjuna Awardee.


Parents, Staff, alumni and students along with their families and friends participated in the first edition of Carmel Run enthusiastically. Notable participants who drew great admiration were septuagenarian and national level athlete , Mr. Puttuswamy Gowda and sexagenarian Ashok Ashra, who ran the full course.
